Best Paint Sealant ?

I am a big fan of meguiars ultimate liquid wax. The name is a lie as it is a full synthetic sealant. I have been getting 6-7 months of beading out of it in southern Indiana. It looks great on competition orange

Doing your own prep for coatings is quite simple and can be done by anyone with a little bit of practice. Xylon is a total rip. My father in law gets it every time he buys a new car. The protection fades pretty quick and the warranty has a ton of loopholes.

I am all for diy coatings, but enjoy polishing and waxing so it would be a waste of time for me.

Ok, so most of these "5 year" claims are bogus then (given 20+ washes per year @ 12-20k miles in the American northeast, garaged)?

I used NuFinish in the past. I liked the result, except that I got some on the vinyl and rubber and it never came fully off even after 4 years. The Jet stuff sounds great since it doesn't have that issue--right?

i dunno anything that claims 5 years. I'll claim bs with the weather we have here and brutal sun.

if you get anything on the trim just use an eraser and it will come off. I think jetseal is ok on trim though but I can't remember.

The Gtechniq C1 stuff says 3-5 years. I haven't seen enough long term reviews to say either way though.

I've been using Blackfire as my sealant and P21s wax. I just reapplied a coat of wax. My car barely comes out of the garage though so I shouldn't have to strip it anytime remotely soon.

X2. Love this stuff got its price. I feel like the high dollar sealants are worth it for a DD but for my weekend warrior powerlock is a win.

1 week with JetSeal here. I've been happy so far.

I ordered a pressure washer, so we'll see how easily the dust falls off.

Another vote for Wolfgang 3.0. Easy on easy off keep dry and let cure for 12 hrs. Good to go. A little goes along way

I just applied this about two weeks ago and I don't know... As soon as it rained about a week later there were water spots all over the car... Do you let it sit before you buff it off?

Power lock should be applied thinly and left on the car until it turns to a haze. I get several months of good protection out of it on my DD.

With any sealant or wax, unless all of the water is removed from the car via some method (e.g., they entirely bead off, they are blown off, dried by MF, etc.), water that dries will cause spots because by the time it air dries, it will have picked up contaminants from the air and surface of the car and will have deposited them unevenly during the evaporation process. Sealants and waxes can't fix that.

I don't know the "right approach" for getting them off, but I wouldn't wipe a dry car with a dry instrument. I'd either rinse the car or use a damp (wetted heavily, then wrung out) MF towel. Or experiment with a touchless technique and power rinse the car and then blow it dry. Again, I do not know the right approach here and I'm no car washing expert.

Most of that cost is in the correction itself. I know there is no way I'd be able to get my paint to look anywhere close as pristine auto was able to do. There is not 1 swirl anywhere. So to me and many others it is worth every penny. I've never had a black car before that was this easy to keep clean, so to me ceramic pro is a miracle. Agree with they will still scratch though.

Agreed. You can buy CQuartz for like $60. The cost isn't the product itself, it is the labor of paint correction and the labor to install the product. So if you can polish the car yourself it isn't expensive to buy the product and install yourself. My detailer charges $400 to do a "new car exterior treatment". This includes wash, decontamination, polish and one application of CQuartz. The CQuartz is applied to the paint, trim and glass. He does the complete wheel for $150. Front and the barrel.

I picked up a 1995 Lighting that had 130K miles on it. The paint was faded, oxidized and had swirls every where. The paint looked new when he finished. I was amazed how well it turned out. After 2 years of daily driving the truck (even in chicago winters) and parking it outside the truck looked freshly polished after a hand wash. The CQuartz works great. I was so impressed I gave him my black 2011 GT. I bought the car cheap with 10K miles on it. The old man who owned it first always took it to a car wash that had brushes. The car turned out as nice as the truck. Not a swirl mark, always looked freshly polished and easy to clean. SO WORTH the money for a black car.

My detailer recommends using Carpro's "Reload" product every 6-8 months (once a year for summer cruisers). This product is meant to help maintain the CQuartz finish. So any swirl marks you may get will fill in and restore the shine and protection. Then a full polish and reseal every 2 to 3 years.


I wish I had a full truck picture of the paint before hand. It was sad looking. But you can see it was worth the $500 correction and coating.

Fantastic! It's great to hear long term results with CQuartz and other long-term sealants. Can you post pics of the black GT? How long have you had both cars post-treatment?

The GT didn't have it on but for about 6 months before I got rid of it for the 2015. But dust seemed to come off the car easier when I drove it. Simple hand washes and it looked like it was just polished. Bugs and tree sap comes off very easily as well. My Lightning is the same way 2 years after it was first applied. I have not used the "Reload" or any other product on it yet. When I pick up my 2015 GT from him I will probably leave my Lightning with him for good cleaning and application of the Reload. So it is sealed up nicely for the coming Chicago winter.

All I have for pictures is the ones he took when polishing it and one outside of the hood with the coating applied.

This was after polishing and coating. He took it outside and moments later it misted for a few seconds. But you can see the clarity in the reflection. The car looked tots.
