currently running 3.55 gears as the car came with them, but I see A LOT of-if not all fast guys here in TX running 3.15 on their boosted coyotes.

are 3.15 gears better on boosted cars and why?

I have 3.15s, it definitely makes for long ass gearing, especially on 28s, I’ll know more when I get back to the track.

but on the street it’s not great, even on the freeway it seems like it just winds out forever and then rapidly slaps through the rest of the gears.

Presuming you're shifting at 8000 ...

3.55's and a 28in tire for drag racing.. That''ll trap 122 on the eight in 5th, and keep you in 6th on the quarter mile.

3.15's and a 28in tire for roll racing.

You see, I have a complete opposite issue. My gears are SUPER short on 3.55, so short that I’m almost hitting 7th gear at measly 125MPH. And 7th gear is a huge NO on a built trans.

I’m unable to even do a 60-130 because of short gearing ratio. I’m at 125-127 before the car is about to hit 7th.

I figured that 3.15 is the to go gear for rolls. My 3.55 are so short that I’m almost touching 7th at only 125mph.
And 7th is a huge NO-GO on a built trans.

So technically I am tapping out at 125mph with 3.55 gears.

And yes shifting at 8k

Are you talking in general or for dig racing or rolls? Because my centri with 3.55 is almost hitting 7th gear at only 125mph, and we all know that 7th is a NO NO.
I technically can’t even do a 60-130 on 3.55 gears due to the shortness of them.

What tires are you running?

Yes in general, centri's are more like N/A till 4000 or so.
They can use the extra help from the short gears. PD make full boost at all RPM so can use the taller gear from a dig.

Unless you are on track road racing I'd keep the 27 to 28 inch tall tire.

In that case I'd toss 3.31 and 3.15 in the calculator and pick one. With the Steep first gear of the A10 you could probably go to 2.73, if they are made.

Enlighten me please. I don't know. Why is 7th gear a No No?

10R80 clutches don't like huge loads in 7th gear. The clutches are super small for this gear as it’s made for cruising. Personally know a few guys that made that money shift to 7th gear by accident and destroyed their clutch packs. Especially on a built transmission where you’re putting much more stress on them.

you can shift into 7th just not at WOT from 6-7

also not recommended by my builder, midnight performance (guys that built the trans) and Lund.
