I just installed a new Odyssey AGM battery in my 2019 GT ~ 3 weeks ago. After I installed it, took the car out for maybe an hour, then put it back into garage and hooked up CTEK MXS 5.0 charger/maintainer. It went throught its paces with charging dtept and has been "all lights on" for the past week or so. Temps in the garage around ~50F and the car has alarm off and the hood is down but unlatched.
Yesterday a "Battery saver mode" message popped up on the Ford app... I am all confused as to why it happened. I did not turn on the car into accessory mode yet to see it any electric stuff works.

Any ideas?

I can think of a few things...

- The battery is new. We don't know how long the battery had been sitting. Or its State of Charge. It might have been a little low to begin with

- When replacing the battery, you need to perform a BMS reset. It's a simple procedure you can accomplish yourself. It is like resetting the Oil Life Monitor: the procedure lets the car know there's a new battery and it should adjust the car's charging characteristics accordingly

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/bms-reset-no-tools-required.151602/

- I'm attaching a user manual on the CTEK. I have the same model. It has an AGM option. I've taken the unit will auto-sense, but if you'd like to switch it to "AGM" mode, that certainly wouldn't hurt

- You didn't mention how you drive. How often or for how long. Given all the above, the battery might need some topping up. It'll get there on the tender

- You've had the car for a while. If left in storage, tender or not, new battery or not, the car will eventually go into battery saver mode. About the two-week mark. The sleep mode works in two ways: 1) the battery actually is low and the car wants enough on-hand to start the car, 2) the car hasn't been driven in about two weeks. Since the vehicle doesn't know when the Owner will return, it goes to sleep automatically

After you installed the new battery, did you reset BMS? Charge your battery to 100% and then reset BMS.

Did you happen to change your battery type from STD to AGM with forscan? Our cars ard set to std battery type and this will need to be changed in forscan when you change the type of battery you are using.

I would do that and reset your BMS after you make sure your battery is fully charged. Our cars will put themselves into deep sleep mode after so many days of inactivity. I believe its 14 days. The temperature extreme cold and extreme heat will also cause you to go into deep sleep mode.

You are using a maintainer so that shouldn't apply. I wonder if it has to do with battery type selection in your As-built configuration. I would start there and a BMS reset.

Forgot to mention, I did perform BMS reset after I installed the battery and did select AGM on the charger. Instructions did say the battery icon would flash 3 times after the process was completed, but I kept seeing 4 flashes. I tried the reset 3-4 times with same results.

Did you use forscan and physically select AGM battery type in your BCM as build configuration?

I didnt realize that FORScan was necessary... My understanding was that doing BMS reset was sufficient. Ok, I will try FORScan process. Hopefully the battery is still good.

The battery should be fine. Your car just needs to be programmed for the higher charging voltage battery. ( AGM)

Sometimes BMS does take a while to show the correct the voltage, mine prob took about 80 miles after I did reset.

Another thing to consider is the new battery is not good; in my F150 2 years ago I put a new battery. Truck/battery is original at 5 years so i always replace at 5 years. I always buy interstate (well not anymore) I go down have them put a new battery in. I drive away happy but shocked at the price. It’s been a few years since I’ve bought a battery but it’s AGM. 6 months later in my driveway and truck wont start. It wont jump, but I figured it cant be the battery it’s brand new. Get my truck towed to ford figured it was an electrical problem; nope. I paid 300 bucks for a diagnostic for them to tell me my battery was done. They get me going and I go to intersate… “this battery is bad but we will replace under warranty the interstate guy says”. Ok, weird. Guy says they come bad from the factory more often that you would think.
5 months later I’m in a field out in the middle of nowhere off road with guns in my truck and other gear I dont want to leave unattended , and my battery is done… no indication that it was having a problem. Wont take a jump. Pull the battery take it to town they tell me it’s so low it cant take a charge. I‘m 300 miles from home, I buy a new battery… I tell them give me the best one you have…. The pull one out I pay and as I’m about to haul it out I notice the manufacture date… it’s 4 years old already. I tell them no way, I want a fresh one.
My point is just because it’s new does not mean it’s fine, and check the manufacture date. You wont one that is less than a year old.
Oh, and I take the 400 dollar battery back to interstate and ask for a refund, they give me the run around and say they dont refund… I tell the clerk the entire story two bad 400 dollar batteries in a row???… she refuses and says she will give me a new battery… I tell her I have a new battery I dont need yours I had to buy one on the road…. She then says why did I not go to interstate to exchange this one….I say “because the closest one was 275 miles from where I was stuck in a field”. She then calls manager and finally I get a refund. I travel around the western states alot in my pick up; I’ll never buy another interstate battery because their locations where I go are non-existant. Buy a battery at a chain that is everywhere. Lesson learn unfortunately for me.

Is the car doing updates over Wifi or cellular?

Second the BMS does not know the car is on a battery charger. It records power consumption from the battery and does not know it has infinite power available. The correct location to mount a charger is past the current sensor in the negative terminal lead so the current sensor outputs zero current while the charger is attached.

Battery saver mode comes on after 2 weeks of not using the car, whether you have a battery tender hooked up or not. Every Winter when I put my car away, with the battery tender attached, the battery saver mode will appear on my Ford app exactly 2 weeks later. It will stay that way unless I turn on the car again. And after 2 weeks of non-use, battery saver will come on again.

Ok, thanks! i will check the battery with voltmeter tonight. This sounds promising to me (a.k.a. no issue)

Are your terminals and ground to the body tight?
