Hi All,

I hope you can help please. I own a 2016 GT premium and I've just come back from holiday and the car battery is flat.
I bought a new battery for it and connected the terminals and the alarm / horn goes off.

Is there a way to reset the alarm please?

I saw the below advice regarding the 2020 GT. Does this work with the 2015-18 cars?

Thanks for any help you can give.

After replacing my battery (with an AGM), I've been trying to avoid paying the dealer for a BMS reset,
and I don't have Forscan or even a computer. I found the following on an F150 forum. Tried it on my '20 GT and it seems to work.

Procedure must be carried out within 10 seconds:
Switch ignition on (engine off)
Pull and release high beam 5 times.
Press and release brake pedal 3 times.
If successful the battery light will flash 3 times within the next 15 seconds
BMS reset completed.
I'm not any kind of expert, but my battery icon flashed three times after performing these steps,
so the procedure appears to work.

Yes, the procedure you highlighted should be done; it let's the car know there is a new battery installed, and adjusts the charging system accordingly. The Battery Management System is kind of like the Oil Life Monitor, for the charging system.

Regarding your primary interest in stopping the alarm, did you try to start the car, while it was alarming?

Since receiving my car, I've had two instances where, with the door open and me walking around, the car begins to alarm. I suspect the car believes it's in the process of being stolen. Or the communication between the fob and the car is momentarily interrupted, putting the two out-of-sync. That's the working theory.

The only way I've been able to clear the alarm is to sit back in it, fob in-hand and start the car.

Something along the same lines might be happening to you. The battery ran all the way down, with whatever Keep Alive Memory being lost. Starting the car again might get everything right. Wouldn't hurt.

Finally, have you confirmed why the battery was run all the way down? Was it a really long Holiday? The battery should be capable of holdings its charge for several weeks, if not longer.

If not being done so already: lock the car, even if in the garage. Also, buy a Faraday pouch and keep the fob inside it. Doing these two things will lessen the communications with the car and the outside world, as well as the car and the fob. Both the car and the fob use bluetooth. Two steps which can help keep the battery at a higher level. And keep the car from getting stolen. :bandit:

Thank you for confirming this. I will try this out.

I tried to start the car but the fobs weren't working and the nor was the start button.
Yes the battery was completely dead, which I tested.

I've been doing too many short journeys in the car and then went on holiday for a couple of weeks, so not ideal for the battery.

Thank you for this useful information.

Interesting as I just replaced my (almost 6-year old) OE battery. Dropped in an Odyssey 'Performance Series' battery & it fired right up w/zero issues. Could this be one of those 2017/2018 'upgrades'?
