Here is why I ordered my Mustang with the 300A package(BASE):

-I wanted the Recaros but when I found out the leather Recaros in the premium package are not heated or cooled or even power like in the Camaro, I decided to save my money and get the base GT.
-The base GT is still very well equipped. HIDs, Sync, very comfortable seats
-MFT. I didn't really want this and I don't feel I miss it
-The cloth Recaros are amazingly comfortable

Leather seat covers can always be added btw

I just couldn't see anyone not wanting the added creature comforts of this car...
the only thing i wanted out of the premium pack was the pony puddle lights. but that's pretty useless. what I don't understand is why people don't add the PP (except if the person doesn't know how to operate a manual transmission obviously)

It's the same reason there is a 350R. Some people want the frame, body, drivetrain and could care less about the rest of it.
yep, i couldn't care less about the stuff in the premium pack, except maybe the air conditioned seats.

Make no mistake, the premium GT, especially with the 401A, is an extremely comfortable car, and if you're just looking for a sporty cruiser ala classic "GT"..it's right up your alley.

However, if you're wanting to get more performance out of your car, it's much harder to decontent the premium and remove weight. MFT, heated and AC heats that are 20 way adjustable (slight exaggeration) etc..all adds weight.

If you're just wanting *leather* seats, you can always get a base GT and add Katzkin seats for about 1,200 installed and OOD. Most dealerships will work with you if you want them installed pre-delivery and worked into the financing

all of my past cars have been leather only because they're rolled into the package that includes the options I want, such as HID.

i was pretty excited that every single feature I require were all standard on the base GT.

keyless entry/push button start
bluetooth
backup camera
HID

im in my car 2 hours a day on work days and i'm well aware of what features i require. my last car was fully loaded with nav, moonroof, etc and I figured out I don't even use the damn Nav because Waze is superior.

Funny, I went to a Ford dealership today to put my name on the Focus RS list and I had this same thought to myself while sitting in a base GT manual. I'm still torn between getting the RS (providing I like it enough when details are out) or a GT. I may be one of the few who actually prefers cloth seats to leather. The cloth Recaro seats in this car feel more comfortable to me than the leather ones did in my '13 ST.

I just don't think I'd spend the extra cash for the premium on the Mustang because it's pretty nice as a base model. The seats in the GT350 are my dream, cloth and suede mix? Yes please. No sliding around, comfort like crazy and no cracking.

Anyway, thanks for all the posts in this thread. I have been building Mustangs on Ford.com for a while now as well but still like to see all the differences laid out. I love the touchscreen look so that's the only thing I'd like from the premium package but I'm hoping the aftermarket can take care of that (providing I end up with a Mustang and not an RS).

Not worth the extra money to me, but then I dislike leather. It's slippery, too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter. Cloth is much better IMO. I also thought a number of other features in the premium are hokey (pony lights especially) or unnecessary (touch screen).

May be goofy logic but after reading that the 1LE Camaro was faster than the PP GT I thought there was no reason to buy the PP GT. I figured the wheels and tires on the PP weren't that great and it must have springs and shocks set up more for comfort than track days. I can buy big wheels and tires if I decide I really want them for going to the track or whatever. I can buy stiffer springs and shocks too. Now I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money. I'll use it to buy the GT350. I fully expect it will walk the 1LE. :)

The tires on the PP package are not all seasons correct? Then you run into buying a whole new set of wheels and tires, on top of the PP package. I'd go for the base GT but the optional wheel choices suck.

Be careful!
i drive like a grandma on corners, but I light the tires up as soon as the road straightens out and is safe to do so!

it's all about physics, know your car's limits.

If an accident ever happened in the winter while driving on summer tires, I would be afraid of an insurance company denying a claim, the police holding me partially or fully at fault due to the tires, or if someone got hurt, being sued and having someone use the summer tires as evidence of negligence. I have never heard of this happening but at the same time it's not a risk I would be willing to take.

Thanks for this! I was thinking I could get away from buying new tires right now if I was taking delivery now and not spring time. Like you said drive slow and have a little fun with it!

I was back and forth but I ended up ordering a base, I just did not see the value in the 5.6k markup of the premium with upgraded stereo. I wanted cloth or suede recaros, leather is too slippery imo. I did not want the power memory sears or any of that. My last 3 cars had it and I never touched it. The recaros I love, really brings a sporty feel and style to the interior that I was looking for. I can see where some may not like em but for me it was a must have. I may get the recaros covered in suede if I can find something that looks like the gt350 seats. I sat in both and the only thing I really l Iiked about the premium was the larger touch screen absent the calculator design of the base, and the toggle switches. I may switch out the head unit and speakers as soon as a suitable aftermarket unit is ready. Even the base was nicer than my recently departed 2007 bmw 335i and had more features. I will say bmw fit and finish is better though but that's why they cost a lot more. What sold me on the base was the lighter weight, loads more I can dump into putting a proper set of wheels / tires, exhaust, and springs. I will have regrets either which way I went because of the screwy way Ford chose the packaging.
