Many of you have heard of the Steeda shifter bracket and the improvements it makes. I was having difficulties power shifting from 2nd to 3rd, or 3rd to 4th sometimes. Took me 2 or 3 tries to get in gear which was a little embarrassing when taking some friends for a ride.
While researching what to do, I was enlightened on improvements that can be done by changing the spongy soft stock shifter bracket. From the widespread acceptance of the Barton Shifter, I looked into what Barton offers. I didn't want to pay nearly $500 for a shifter, so I contacted them to see if they could do any better on pricing or what I can do about the shifting issue. They brought their shifter bracket to my attention. The install was fairly easy minus one hiccup. I have the BMR Driveshaft Safety loop installed, and took me some finicking to realize my shifter assembly was not sagging down far enough because it was resting on the driveshaft safety loop after I removed the stock shifter mount. Once I realized that, I loosened the bolts on the transmission cross brace, and had no issues sliding the barton shifter mount onto my shifter and bolting it up there.
Now I'm not a mechanic, only a do it yourselfer that likes to wrench here and there. Once I understood how things bolted up this was not a difficult install. It could have been easier had I removed the exhaust and drive shaft, but I was still able to install it without removing those.
Once all was said and done, I lowered the car. I noticed it was in 3rd gear from the movement of me messing with the shifter down below. I popped it into neutral and it literally slid right into neutral. It was a noticeably different feeling from stock. Then I popped into 3rd, 4th, and it just locked into gear. Like things were perfectly aligned. Keep in mind I hadn't changed out the shifter, only the mount, and my shifter feels totally different now; for the better! I took the car for a drive, and haven't missed 3rd/4th shifts yet.
I'm now hoping they come out with the transmission bushing to tighten shifting a little more and also come out with a short throw shifter for those of us that are budget minded. If they don't, I may purchase the full Barton shifter setup anyways. I can't believe what a difference this little bracket made let alone thinking of what a full shifter assembly would feel like.
