I have had a few people tell me that at my stated goal of 700ish whp on a centri at 8.5 psi, i should be good with “just a BAP” on the stock pump. I believe that from what i have seen here and in the GM world. But i still wonder about the alternative. The cost is close, if not less for the pump, if you install yourself in the factory hat.

My question is what is more reliable long term? IE, 5 years after install is a bap more likely to take a dump and leave me running, but lean, or is a DW400 in the factory hat more likely to to leave me lean or just flat die? I feel like that pump should have enough headroom that if performance degrades over time I would still be ok. And frankly from a failure standpoint I’d rather a pump take a total dump, that a BAP die and i run lean and pop a few pistons or ventilate my block.

Run a BAP on a DW400…..

Stock pump can’t handle 18V forever. The DW400 can.

Thats interesting.

But the DW400 doesnt need a BAP at my goal power level does it?

Fair enough. Thanks!

Still speaks to my original question. Do BAPs fail? Frequently? Usually after how long? Do they work less hard if the pump they are feeding is up to the task solo, and therefore last longer?

In all seriousness, see what your tuner prefers/finds most reliable.

They rarely ever fail. They do no work. They are just a step up DC/DC converter.

If a bap fails it takes about 5 minutes to bypass it.

My issue is that most tuners do not know how to tune for a bap such that the pressure control works properly.

I will see what Wengerd says. Above makes me want to just run the DW400 …

For the added price of a BAP (not much) why not just run the DW400 with BAP? As stated above, it’s cheap insurance.

Not to mention, it’s literally P+P.

I was told at low boost either will do the job. I’m no expert but I’d guess DW400 is safer, if you had to choose just one. But there is no science I refer to. Just my 2c

Not to derail the thread, but do all of the boost a pumps regulate voltage upon demand of ecu?
