I’ve just encountered my first “problem” with my car. When in reverse, the camera will bug out and have lines throigh it almost as if it’s working but not as clear.( picture below) It progressed and got to the point where it said camera unavailable. Today it seems to be working fine for now but just looking to see if anyone had this problem or knows a way to fix. I’ve heard could be the fuse or an update but the app shows it’s up to date.

thank you

Safety Recall Notice # 25S89 / NHTSA Recall 25V572
PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. When they become available, Ford will mail you a notice.
If you bought your car used, you might not be getting the mail notices. You can go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and put your VIN in. I believe you can sign up for future notices.

BOTH of our Mustangs have the same recall. The '19 has had the camera wig out a couple times. Nothing like what you're seeing.

Just got my recall notice for the camera last week. I haven't had any issue so far. No parts available. Go figure. Also got one for seat belt mounting bolts, again, no parts available.

Same here - received the recall notice. First time ever receiving one for my 2018. Never had any issues with the cam harness or cam since owning the car new, however I’ve seen many on here have issues from the 2015-2023 model years..

Don’t know what is different from 1 car to the next where some are “affected” and some are not (meaning 1 car will never have issues and the next does).

Ford has to send out the recall notice per NHTSA guidelines and Govt. law even if they don’t have a current fix/parts in place. It’s to notify the customer they are aware of the problem, to make you aware of the potential possibility for a problem and to be inline with following. NHTSA rules so they don’t get hit with huge fines or frivolous lawsuits.

If your S550 doesn’t have any of the issues outlined in the Recall, just carry about your business and don’t worry about it.

If your S550 does have the issues in the recall, you can attempt to fix the cam harness yourself (it is the most common issue for rear cam issues and there’s a DIY thread on here with tech/images). If it’s not the harness and it’s the actual cam, there were threads on here too showing how to replace the cam on the rear deck lid. IIRC, in some of the rear back up cam threads there were instructions for how to reset the cam to correct the “guide lines” or image issues if doing the cam R&R.

Just search:
“Rear back up camera” (or use the word “cam”)
“Back up camera (cam) harness”
“Back up camera (cam) recall”

There’s a slew of threads on here about the rear back up cam since the 2015’s rolled out…

I got my letter a few weeks ago, too. I haven't had any problems with my backup camera since I've owned my car, so I guess I'll take it in when parts are available just because.

Your wiring harness may be damaged. You can look in your trunk and see if you can see any broken wires, or your camera itself could be failing. A replacement camera is around $40. Not sure about the harness.

It's not often easy to see broken wires as the are in a loom. You have to take the loom apart to properly inspect them. Even then it's not always easy because the wire itself can fail inside of the insulation.
A camera is not too expensive but sometimes they have to be programed to the car to restore backup lines. That requires Forscan or a dealer.

The recall is for the camera wire in the trunk that hangs down from the trunk interior and passes to the lid. The section between the ziptie fastening and lid rotates 90 degrees each time the trunk is opened. The 90 degree bend in the wire is sharp and the wire is fatigued each time the trunk is opened. The more the trunk is opened the more the wire is fatigued until it eventually breaks. Trunks used more over the life of the car have a higher chance of the issue. It's more about how often the trunk is used rather than the age of the car. Even if there are no issues with the camera the wire may be damaged and pending separation. The wire is wrapped with electrical tape and the tape must be removed to check for damage whether or not the camera is operating normally.

You would think that they would have tested that wire a little more knowing over time of opening and closing the trunk it would weaken it and reinforce it better.

The root cause of the issue is the ziptie. The ziptie was installed much too tight on the wire at the assembly plant. The issue might not be here if the ziptie was loosely installed around the wire and the wire had room to float. Looks like the failure built up from 2015 to now and the poor install of the ziptie is now being uncovered.

Got a call today from the dealership. Recall 25SA9/25v695

Description

On your vehicle, the rear view camera could display a blank or distorted image on the center display screen when the vehicle is in reverse. You may also receive a message that the rear view camera is unavailable on the center display screen.

The service lady told me that it was a software update but she didnt sound secure about it. Anyway, got an appointment for the 19th.

Finally breaking down and dealing with this one. Dealer wants me to let them inspect it first, and if they have any needed parts, fix it then. Otherwise, they have to order parts and schedule another appointment.
Been getting the camera not available message lately and squiggly pix.
