There is a recall for the backup cameras/trunk wiring on some cars. My 2017 vert is included, but since the camera has always worked, I haven’t taken it in for the recall.

They've had rear camera issues with a couple of different models. With the others it was wires breaking at the point of transition between trunk and trunk lid. If your's is covered by a recall or TSB, great. If not, the area I mentioned is where you can start looking for problems.

Hey OP I highly suggest you checking your VIN to see if you are eligible for the backup camera recall. This was a known issue that affected many cars. I'm sure this is your issue.

You can also fix it yourself if you're so inclined. It is just because the wires are a little too short, so they get tugged on when the trunk is opened. I repaired mine about a year ago when my screen started cutting out a bit. Its pretty easy to do, though there is one wire that is a very fine gauge that is a bit difficult to work with. I used butt connectors and added a bit of length to the wires, then wrapped it all up with electrical tape and friction tape. Looks pretty much OEM.

By any chance do you have some photos of your fix?

I don’t have any of it in process, but when I get home if I remember I’ll snap a picture of the final product.

Ok maybe not quite OEM look šŸ˜‚ but most people probably wouldn’t notice anything. You could always get some of the mesh stuff and put that over it to make the repair disappear.
It was worth it to not deal with the dealer
