I recently encountered a really rigged out 2013 Mustang that had a mat-black carbon fiber look to it. At first, I thought that it was a 'premier' color from Ford...but found out that the owner had taken it to a specialty paint shop and had a unique color and finish applied.
The Mustang looked like it was the star of an action movie.
Too bad Ford can't be as creative in factory colors.

Funny you mentioned this..I was viewing a GTR thread the other day and there were several flat black, dark brown, pearl white, pewter, multi color and other crazy colors that had me drooling. I wondered to myself why car companies dont offer more exotic colors. They seem to stick to the same colrs: red, green, blue, black, grey silver and white (or some shade within those lines) and the same textures over and over again. Im assuming its because of prep time and cost. On the flipside there has to be some break even point where the financials make sense to offer premium color options while charging the customer more.

I really cant wait for the day when I can buy the car I want from a manufacturer and not the car they have packaged for me. Im a musician and the drum market is headed this way. Manufacturers are offering 50 colors of drum shells, 50 colors of hardware, 5 drum head types, 3 hardware packs. You pick and choose what you want, they put it together and ship it to you. Phones are going to be modular within five years in which you get to pick the parts that are important to you (better camera/better speakers/different colors/etc)..THAT is what I want with my car. I get there has to be cost of scale but give me options within that cost of scale.

Personally I don't care for the flat paint, I prefer the metallics, and brighter colors generally speaking. I can see the appeal to some, but I would most certainly not order a car in what looks like a primer color to me.
Just a point of order, but this is not flat paint. It's very glossy gray. It's non-metallic; maybe that's what you meant. Real flat paint is becoming a trend, and I agree that stuff looks like primer, even in the bright blues and yellows the Euro manufacturers are showing.

...are you hinting at something? Is this going to be a color for the S550? I'm getting my hopes up.

...do you speak in a language that doesn't consist of pictures :(

It seems like Topnotch is becoming our own stig. "some say he has a digital face, and that if you were to hear him speak, your head would explode"

I realize the non-metallic gray on the Aston is apparently increasingly fashionable, but if that's what Avalanche Gray really looks like, the I'll be ordering my GT350 in magnetic metallic or DIB.

I'm really confused about the account. If it wasn't for the random one-off posts like the Aston stuff we see here, I'd think he was some kind of incognito Ford social PR guy. Or maybe he's just someone searching the internet 24/7? Just odd that we never see any direct responses about how he finds his information or if he has any links to the blue oval. I'd at least like to see him say "no relation to Ford."

I'm not complaining about the steady stream of media though. :)
