Interesting so a 1.5 difference between a R and non R. I feel like that could be tires??

I am curious if his down force numbers are right my research implied the R still had slightly more downforce than the non R.

He mentioned the non-R with the gurney flap had 180 lbs of downforce vs 140 lbs for the R. He did not say how much the non-R has with the standard setup.

I think when I looked some of the numbers above were actually at 120 and some at 180.
Edit:

Ford's long-anticipated, upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500 produces maximum rear downforce of 550 pounds at 180 mph when equipped with the optional Mustang GT4-like rear wing that comes as part of the Carbon-Fiber Track Package. The downforce number is 379 pounds at the same speed from the Handling package's smaller wing that features a Gurney flap. (For context, the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 produces a tad under 300 pounds of maximum downforce, the company says.)

Im not sure the GT350R number is the wing or the cars downforce (total). Some sites list from and rear separate and some combine.

That article I suspect is mixing the two and using measurements at different speeds.

Ive never seen an article state 300 for the GT350R wing.

Edit 2:
https://www.hotrod.com/articles/sibling-rivalry-comparing-2019-gt350-gt350r/

GT350R’s carbon-fiber fixed wing that produces 300 pounds of downforce? Schembari says, “The swing produces 135 pounds of rear downforce at 120 mph, and 238 pounds of downforce at 120 mph with the Gurney flap installed.”

If hot rot is right then the GT350R would make more than 300 pounds of down force at 180.

Slap some CF wheels on the non-R and see how that narrows done to less than a second... I feel a huge difference in steering and control between my old track pack and my R... I do think it's the wheels mostly. Downforce could be a factor though as that track had a long straight...

I met Andy Pilgrim at a CTSV event held by Lindsey Cadillac a few years ago. He was giving rides to people in the V race car at Summit Point. My bud with a V got three clear hot laps in the V racer with Andy driving and when he got out of the car he was a bit green looking from the G forces and speed. Andy said he gave my friend a 90 percent ride. He was also driving other people’s cars with the owners as a passenger and giving out tips on how to make the car better. He’s a pro for sure.

I don't think you would need the CF wheels on a 19+ GT350, just the same Cup2 compound tires that the R has and you would likely narrow it down further. The driver commented multiple times in regards to how the R just had more grip.

But he also mentioned he blew a shift, when he was trying to drop to 3rd gear in the GT350R from 4th, but he had changed his mind and stuck with 4th. He said that "in limbo" move probably cost him a few 10ths

I have the base 350 and don't mind if for OVER 10 grand more the R is a better track weapon (it should be!). I actually love the look of the R's carbon fiber wheels (not just what they do performance-wise), and I love the R's rear wing. The rear wing in particular I think is a work of art on the R

But since almost all my driving will be summer joy rides on the street, I like that my base has got a little more front clearance and is a little more tweaked for the everyday street drive, and I got the "fat boy" seats they don't offer in the R

The fact they are REALLY close now with the 2019 upgrades on the base is good enough for me

If you took the base 350, put carbon fiber wheels on it, cup 2 tires, a bigger splitter and spoiler, removed the back seat and re-flashed the suspension, Imagine how much faster the base 350 would be than the R

LOL

What I meant by "upgrades" is just the factory refresh for the 2019 model year

Not trying to make the car into an R. To me, that would be silly. What I meant is I am fine being in 2nd place behind the R, since my use is mostly street, and the savings goes to the kids school. I can only go so far in the non-necessity categories being in a house full of kids. I am just really happy with what I do have
