Automatic vs Manual Alternator

Alternator just died. Any differences between the manual and automatic alternators? Looks like the manual one might be a clutched alternator.

Part #s for 15 GT (200amp):
Auto: FR3Z-10346-G
Manual: FR3Z-10346-H

Aftermarket parts makers (AutoZone, oriley) also list different ones for automatic and manual.

If there is a difference is there any point? I have an automatic car. Any point for modified cars? Thanks!

Only difference is likely the clutch pulley on the manual alt, not really necessary at all

Yep I bought the manual one to see myself.

Automatic one is directly linked (any way the pulley turns the alternator will turn), and the manual one is a one way clutch (only in one direction that the pulley turns (clockwise) will the alternator turn).

Maybe it will hold up better to abuse? Idk couldn’t find much info on the topic. Either way it was the same price and it seems to work fine.

Auto one lasted almost 130k miles if it’s the original.

Don’t know if I’ll be able to get this one that far but I’ll update if I do haha

Clutch pulley was used on manual trans cars to stop belt slippage and the "chirp" sometimes heard on abrupt decel or gear changes.
