Hypermotive price was pretty good. Slightly better than Carmodsaustralia even after factoring in the painful customs tax :(

I was looking at QLD exhaust limits and came across this..

https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/environment/files/NoiseLimitsOldandNew.pdf

Surely it can't be this low...

it would be great to include a thread with exhaust systems and their dB rating (phone dB app would be good enough) to give us an idea what levels they are on our AU Mustangs.

I'll have to find the distance and angle to measure sound... it's be somewhere in the ADR83/00

So under the ADR83/00, the mustang is at 306kW, so our limit is 80dB... what.....

5.1.2A Paragraph 6.2.2.1.2.2 of Appendix A is amended to read ‘Vehicle categories: with an engine power of 150 kW (ECE) or above but less than 320 kW (ECE) Limit values [dB(A)]: 80’.
5.1.2B A new paragraph 6.2.2.1.2.3 that reads ‘Vehicle categories: with an engine power of 320 kW (ECE) or above Limit values [dB(A)]: 83’ is inserted after paragraph 6.2.2.1.2.2 of Appendix A.

I agree. Nsw DB limit is higher but those of us who are noise conscious it would be great to have DB readings. need to be done outdoors at 3000 rpm 3 meters from the exhaust outlet I believe.

that topic has been done several times in this very thread...maybe we should make some sort of sticky with that info

FYI it's measured at a distance of 500mm, not 3 metres. 10 ft is US standard

I use the highly technical, highly accurate Wifometer for exhaust volume testing...If its over a specific db reading it creates an annoying whine in the cabin.

Really? I might trawl through and do some cutting and pasteing tonight then.

My commodore got tested at 3 m in ACT but that was about ten years ago. Perhaps it has changed.

Yeah have a trawl, we went through the regs before aussierob tested his Corsa at the required 500mm 45deg angle etc. I can't remember what RPM it needs to be measured at though, might be worth finding his post

That is good info, i've read the thread before, but wasn't looking for dB readings, i must of passed over this info..

A Sticky with this Exhaust Info for the AUS Mustang and Testing Method would be great.

And if people want to test there dB according to the testing method, it would give us a great idea of were we stand before buying...

And maybe a sub section of what the legal dB ratings are in each state...

I though Australia was going over to a National System with ADR's, where it is the same state by state, or did that not happen...

meh too many pages, I got to page 19 and my eyes were watering. I will just do the cat back myself and keep the stock in the garage. Then I can do a switch back if I get pinged until the test is done and then put it back.

For what it is worth I used to have a 68 VW beetle with a subaru turbo engine. I took it to the ACT pits when I needed to transfer the rego and they pinged me for the tyres being to big. The RTA guy actually said, I kid you not, "go and borrow some wheels from someone bring it back and then switch back. Careful though, driving on stock tyres with this car will be dangerous." So I used a relatives address and re registered in NSW. I was pretty horrified that they would knowingly put me and other users in danger so they could tick their clipboard.

General rule in Perth....IF you have a loud exhaust dont drive like a dick...If you do and you get pulled over don't be a dick...If you do the policeman will look for anything he can to fine you for. Just be sensible. If you have a really loud exhaust (Atak or Extreme etc) chances are at some point it will be the very reason you get pulled over. Ive had alot of modified cars I've never had my exhaust db's checked and just about anything over a stock system it probably illegal? it's more driving attitude and your actual attitude that will get you in the poopoo.

They know what everyone does haha, May aswell be conscious of it.
My 2002 STi would have been too loud at the pits but I never got it checked even by police, don't drive like an idiot or act like a jerk and they are usually really good here.
