Looking at the GT350 thread got me thinking and researching. I really like the S4 flat bottom steering wheel. My thought is, could one take the existing stock GT wheel frame and make a new wheel very similar to the S4 wheel, possibly shrink the diameter a little, increase the thickness, cut the frame to match, and make a true flat bottom steering wheel. I am not talking some has assed product, but a wheel using a mold and a mix of expanding poly urethane and carbon fiber. Then cover the wheel in Nappa leather and Alcantara. I would imagine this would cost around 100-200 for supplies max. You would not need a lot of leather or Alcantara. You could use a carbon fiber kit for around 65.00, Alcantara for 40.00, leather for 40.00, various other supplies for 40.00 70.00.

The problem here is, I do not have the experince to do all the above, does anyone know of a custom maker or is this even possible? Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Thanks

Not impressed with the gt350 steering wheel, only advantage seems to be the thicker grip and it really doesn't look and feel like a real flat bottom. Here i ll just drop this here! This is how it should have been from the factory for a pp equipped gt and gt350!

Give it a year and I'm sure there will be quite a few steering wheels out there. I'd rather have a higher grade leather that's softer, with the thicker wheel and flat bottom, with red stitching and matching sticking on the shift boot and handbrake. With either black or Red interior I think that combo would look great!

I was really looking forward to the GT350 steering wheel, but after seeing it I have to agree with Stam and wait for aftermarket ones. The S550 isn't even a year old yet, let the market catch up

i was making a mold to do these wheels the right way like the Audi RS models and AMG models but the response ive gotten is nobody wants to spend the money on a hand made wheel for a Mustang, the $200 GT350 wheels are a bargain because of mass production and slave labor overseas you can not do this in America unless tooling is developed to expedite the process. I have 50 steering wheels from various Euro makes in my possession and i have made molds for EURO cars. I can do this but you guys need to see what your willing to pay for something like this. If i invest time and my money for production i want to make hundreds of wheels not just a few.

Even with me having one of 3 confirmed GT350 wheels out in the wild... I would probably be game for something fatter and flatter on the bottom.

But if the wheel is going to be more than probably $4-600 you won't find many takers, let alone hundreds.

The price will definitely drive interest. I would be in for a wheel that was inspired or very close in looks to the s4/5/jag wheels. I would pay around 4-500 for that, it would need to retain all the stock buttons and functionality though. I understand that this is not easy and you would need a decent following and probably half up front to get this product going. The only problem is this is still a Mustang with Mustang owners, this is not the Merc, BMW, Porsche crowd, I have been told by a few vendors, Mustang owners are cheap. Not a knock, as I am an owner as well.

So, who is going to be the first one to try it? :headbang:

If you look at some of the subtle details of the Jaguar Wheel, it's almost identical to the S550 Wheel. I'd be willing to bet it would mount up and all the hardware would transfer over. The only piece that could potential be a pain is the lower trim piece at 6 o'clock. But they sell that too, for like $30.

I would settle for a fatter wheel, the flat bottom is nice but not really a necessity. Better leather and slightly harder filler material would also be a plus.

I agree as well, it someone could take our Stock wheels and reshape them to include a flat bottom and possibly grips at the 3 and 9 positions.and about .02-.04 inches thicker that would be amazing. Is this possible?

The problem with the flat bottom is that trim piece. You can't really make the wheel any flatter without creating a new bottom trim piece.

Honestly, I suspect that is why the GT350 wheel is not flatter. I think they cheaped out and did not want to make tooling for what is a rather limited edition car when they could get by with using tooling for the normal car.

You can see from this image if the wheel was any flatter that trim piece would not work.

For me, I'm definitely interested. 200 bucks for a wheel that is sorta cool is stupid if I can pay 400-500 for a steering wheel that is perfect.

Anything going much over that is gonna put me off. But I'd definitely be interested in hearing guesstimates on what you think pricing would be.

I would be interested if the price point is at or around 400.00 - 500.00. I'm assuming all stock buttons would remain functional?
