Hi folks,

Noob on the forum! Just switched out of a 2008 M3 into a GT Premium.

M3's don't have dipsticks, so oil changes are done the old fashioned way, plus a long wait for the oil to warm up and be measured by the sensor. I am thrilled to have dipstick again! Has anyone used a Mitivac to switch oil from the top? I figure you still have to jack it up to get the filter and drain that, but it is a fraction of the whole amount to be drained.

Thought I'd see if there are any issues before triggering a purchase.

Why wouldn't you just drain the oil from the plug? It's by far the way easiest and most complete way to drain the system.

It can be a more convenient way to move the dirty oil out of the car and around the garage. You can reverse the valve and pump to waste with less slop.

TIL. I'm all about keeping the mess to clean up less.

The downside is that you will probably leave a little more old oil in the sump than a regular drain, but that will be diluted by the new stuff sufficiently that there shouldn't be an issue. It is not like the engine is rinsed with solvent (Or should I be doing that???? ;))before new oil is added, so there is already remnants circulating as soon as you drive off!

Unfortunately, even the smallest suction tube does not fit down the dipstick tube.

Ask me how I know...? :)
