I guess it depends on how you look at it. There is a .3 displacement difference, other than that they are DI 4 cylinders with tiny turbos and 6 speeds.

Not sure where the fueling comment is coming from and same gearing still means the 4 is spinning faster than the 8. And it is still too close in performance to the focus IMO.

I was trying to choose between both engines as well, and those were the factors that swayed me. If you don't think it's applicable that's your call.

I'm in the EB vs GT camp... here's why:

1. MPG. I know there is a lot of discussion how much it really matters, but I think it's heavily dependant on driving style. I drive a lot of stop and go city-type driving, and when I had my 2012 GT I remember sitting at stoplights watching my MPG drop. Literally give it gas, let off the clutch, hit second gear then have to hit the brakes again.

2. Cost. The EB is thousands less than the GT similarly equipped. This may or may not matter. For me, it's not even a question of affordability. My wife and I have very good jobs, but you can still make an argument for saving an extra 100$ a month in payment. 1200$/year will pay for a nice weekend getaway or part of a nicer vacation. MPG helps here too.

3. Driveability. With the type of driving I do, the torque of the 2012 GT 6speed was just too much. You put it in first, it just wants to take off. When you're in stop and go traffic, first gear, gas, immediately push the clutch back in to stop again. I kid you not, there were times stuck in traffic that my left leg got tired.

All of these are reasons I'm still considering the EB vs GT debate. I feel that the lower hp/torque might make a 6 speed a bit less cumbersome to drive in city traffic (I dont remember having that issue in my Audi TT, much less power).

The bottom line? I plan on driving both before making a decision. I don't intend to track or race the car, so if the EB has plenty of power for the type of driving I do and is fun, then I'll go with that. If I drive both and realize that the EB is just lacking, then I'll probably end up with an automatic GT.

Just my two cents.

That sounds more like an issue with where you drive. I wouldn't even want a GT if I had to deal with what you're dealing with.

I can only see going to an EcoBoost from a GT from a financial stand point and "practicality". My mind is set on the GT.

It absolutely is. I was real torn with my old GT because it could be annoying driving to work, but was a ton of fun on the weekend. If I lived on the other side of town like I did before, it would be all highway driving to work and wouldn't make a difference... Hrmmm maybe I should just move??

For me saving an extra 5k~ on the car, plus whatever gas savings, even if it's only 500 a year is worth it IF the EB is still fun to drive. If you aren't taking it to the track and the EB is just as fun as the GT in my daily commute to/from work and the grocery store, it just makes sense for me. Then again, if the EB just doesn't do it I'll definitely move up to the GT. FWIW my dad couldn't believe I was even considering the EB--the look on his face when I mentioned it was priceless.

I just have to be patient enough for a dealer to have both in stock at the same time so I can test drive them both. The last dealer sold them both before I could make it over!

No, I currently own a turbo car and the throttle response is not the same...especially partial throttle. Some manufactures tune it out by essentially making partial throttle full throttle. I'm not sure what Ford does in this instance, but I'm ready to swap to an NA for track purpose

I was trying to choose between both engines as well, and those were the factors that swayed me. If you don't think it's applicable that's your call.

Just a thought, but for me, I would not even consider the Focus. It's not about how it looks, or the performance numbers, etc. It's simply the drive-train layout. I will never own another front drive car unless it's purely a people mover. They simply suck to drive from a performance standpoint.

When you consider that limitation, as well as a somewhat pedestrian income, there are not many options available that fit the bill, and the ecoboost is one of them. I could also afford the GT, but I'm a bit torn on it's value. It's an interesting prospect, but optioned the same there is a $7,400 price difference between the two and that is nothing to sneeze at. Couple that with the fact that I do quite a bit of long distance highway driving, and the difference in insurance cost, and the EB is roughly $230 per month cheaper to run than the GT for me. That's not small change.

I haven't decided yet, and will not until I get a chance to drive both models with performance package(might be a while). Which way I lean depends on how steep lunch was that day generally )

You could argue that both the Porche(918) and Ferrari(458) to have at the moment are not in suit with your assessment.

Oh, and Harleys are incredibly overpriced junk.

Im in the same camp as you. I'm going to the event next week where you get to drive the EB and ride in the GT. Like I've said before, my ideal would be the V6 premium but that IS a unicorn in the wild...because it doesn't exist.
