Here's a question for you, @GT Pony... When you remove your oil filter during a service, are you using cardboard or a plastic bag to shield the rack from dripping oil? If not, it could be residual left over from that. As you know, if you don't shield it, the rack will get SOAKED.

Go look at my updated post #14 above showing the RTV fix to the oil seepage. On the 2nd oil change, the seeping was not there, so the reseal with the RTV fixed the leak source.

I found the oil residue on the steering rack before the 1st oil change, and I don't get one drop of oil an anything when I remove the oil filter due to the aluminum shield that works great.

Good man. I can't stand people who just let oil soak everything.

Anyway, it looks like it is indeed grease inside of the rack. Any oil seepage you're seeing should just be lubricant that has separated from it's carrier. It can happen a bit when grease gets hot. nothing to worry about. Looks like yours just seeped out of the port a bit, like you said.

I guess what I'm saying is that the sheer volume of oil in OP's post can't be coming from the rack. He has to look higher.

I agree, it's probably just grease liquefying from heat in my case. The OP's leak looks much worse, so probably an oil leak from above. If his leak is actually from the PS rack I'd be surprised.

Omg - Some Members on this site need that tinfoil hat! What a waste of a perfectly good tinfoil hat!
:cwl::beer:

OP’s leak is definitely motor oil... he needs to look up higher in the engine bay as suggested. Probably spilt oil from an oil change if it was serviced at a Dealer (most don’t wipe up or clean after such a spill).

Oil coated tin foil might work even better, especially if it's raining ... lol. :bandit:

^^^ Agree with looking for an oil leak above the electrical steering rack first. If no source found above, then it could be the steering rack. Clean it up real good and monitor it for the source of oil leakage.

Like said before, I have found a few drops of oil residue on my steering rack that were from the rack itself, so it certainly could contain some type of lubricating oil inside it.

I literally ran into this same thing last night that appears like its from this exact location. I have oil all down my driver side underbody and it looks to be coming from here. I was able to check above this location and checked the oil filter and everything else looks to be ok?

"GT Pony" were you ever able to come to a resolution? Only thing I think I can do is just schedule an appointment with service to see if they can figure it out...

The EPAS only has gears, circuit board, a belt, and a motor sealed inside of it. It's not full of fluid.

I had created this technical reference thread for the EPAS unit a while back, which contains a lot of info for the EPAS/PSCM.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/s550-epas-pscm-tech-accumulation.160616/

The fluid you are seeing would most likely be motor oil - and as stated in this thread many times before, it would be coming from a source or point above the rack from the engine. If the car is serviced at any oil change facility OR a Dealership - they spill oil all the time and they do not clean up after spinning off the oil filter....

If the car isn't ever oil serviced by anyone else but yourself, then you should check valve covers, front timing cover, oil sensor, oil filter, etc. Most common Coyote 5.0 leaks would be the valve covers on earlier models, oil sensor and oil filter on all models.

You rock! Ok, let me take a look through some of these threads as well. I want to get back under it sometime today and take another look. It was tough getting under it, but I was able to tell it wasnt the oil filter and I havent had a recent oil change or anything like that and I couldnt really see anything leaking from the top, but I'll check again today. This just all the sudden came up overnight and didnt notice it when I parked.

Update!

Also, sorry not trying to hijack this thread, but just wanted to update because I think for me, it seems like a silly reason and would like you to confirm my theory.

I just went and jacked up the front end and look around a little better/more. I looked above, nothing. Under the car I wiped things down and look around that above area, nothing. I moved around the steering wheel to see if there was any new oil or anything else coming out, nothing. I then started the car to see any any new oil or anything came back, then I notice that my oil filter looked to be collecting oil at the edge... Obviously, that shouldn't be the case. Looked at it better (will post pictures) and it looks like back when I picked up the car from the dealership last Oct they kindive banged up the filter when putting it on.

My theory: the dealership banged up the filter creating some imperfections/weak points when they did the oil change and filter install. From there, these imperfections have worn down and there is a pinpoint hole where oil is escaping and running down the car. Think all I need to do is just replace the filter/get an oil change.

Thoughts?

Mine seemed to just be some liquefied grease seeping out of the steering rack. Once I cleaned it up and sealed that small port with RTV as I explained earlier, the seepage I saw never came back.

Seeing your other posts, it looks like your seeping oil filter is the source of the oil you are seeing.

Either the filter is bad, or it simply might not be tight.

I did check if it was loose and it was pretty tight. I have a service appointment at 4:30 today for an oil change, but I'm pretty sure the filter is just messed up at this point
