So I'm interested in a base ecoboost Mustang 6 spd w/ performance pack & Recaros ( and MAYBE spare tire and enhanced security ) b/c the car will be my daily commuter and possible weekend in auto-x warrior. Even though I'm 90% sure this is what I want I'm still not gunslinger enough to order one up sight unseen or w/ out a test drive. To that end I've been looking at extended inventories for dealerships in my area - Houston, TX 77095 - and also around the area my parents live in - St. Louis, MO 63031 - but EVERY car I've seen has been a Premium model and the vast majority of those have been automatic trans.

I always kinda figured that Ford would want to get the ball rolling pumping out mostly Premium models w/ all the bells and whistles and the more pedestrian cars would come later but I also thought there would be at least a few PP / Recaro / 6 spd cars around for test drives even if it were a GT? So I'm kinda curious if anyone out there ordered a "base" ecoboost or GT car w/ 6 spd & PP in particular and if so what's the status of your order or projected delivery?

Basic GT with PP and Recaros. Dont know dont know and dont know. Dealership isnt giving me any info except its supposed to be dealer stock order.

I hate leather interior, stereo systems, and anything that doesnt make it go faster or stop better.

Ford doesn't place the orders - the dealers place them based on many factors. One of which is Ford marketing predictions of the model ratios. Dealers will look at their historical Mustang sales and order the colors and packages which have sold well in the past.

Ford is pushing the EcoBoost heavily, but these dealers haven't sold a high volume turbo Mustang since the 1986 model year and they have no idea how well they will sell. I would expect most dealers to tread lightly at first and order mostly automatic base EBs with few or cheaper options to test the waters. Things like the spare wheel and tire, reverse sensing system, security package, floor mats. If you want a manual base EB with EBPP you'll probably have to order it.

I don't think you can get the spare tire with the performance package.

Also, wouldn't a "base" car be literally nothing but a barebones V6? If you're talking about an EB with PP and Recaros, you are already spending several thousand dollars more on trim and options than you need to to get a Stang. Let alone if you add the security pack. At the *least*, base should probably be described as a no-option, no-package build of any trim. In terms of what I'd consider a true "base" car, I doubt many (maybe even ANY) people here have a genuine no-frills, barebones V6 Mustang on order.

... But my pointless rant aside, I think a lot of people here have a non-premium Mustang on order. And there's *definitely* a lot of people with a 6MT + PP on order. I personally have something that's fairly close to what I think you're defining as base. It's a premium GT, but it has the 6-sp manual, PP, security package, and Nav. I got a VIN this morning, but it's dealer stock (order placed 9/4... kinda).

Yeah, you and I are kindred spirits. I'll be really curious to hear when your car gets delivered. I have a sneaking suspicion that these "base" type cars will mostly appeal to enthusiasts which is a low volume set and a stripped out car will carry a smaller margin so there's less incentive to build them in anything resembling high numbers. Most folks like all the bells and whistles and Ford will probably bend over backwards making sure there's plenty of those to go around coming out of the gate.

Actually from what I've seen there's a plethora of EB Premiums w/ automatic trans that will be available in the areas I searched extended inventory. It seemed like in Houston and St. Louis, two large cities, the only thing I saw was EB Premium automatic cars actually. My guess is most dealers will be trying to funnel the traditional v6 buyers into the EB Premium. These are the folks who like the sporty look and feel of a Mustang but didn't want the added "hassles" of the v8, i.e more power and noise than they want, higher payments both for the car and insurance, lower mpg, etc. These kinds of buyers also want creature comforts for their cruisemobile like Nav, MFT, Sync, comfortable seats, high mpg and definitely not the hassle of a third pedal. This person is my wife who works in retail has a v6 auto Honda Accord coupe w/ leather and sun roof. It's just sporty and economical enough for her daily commute and nowhere near as obnoxious as my '01 Cobra which she won't drive if her life depended on it.

Interestingly enough I saw very few v6 cars listed as well when looking at Ford's extended inventory. It's my guess the v6 will become the almost exclusive domain of rental lot duty.

Nah, what I'm talking about is the fact that on Ford's builder page you have an option between what's labeled as "ecoboost" and the "ecoboost premium" or the "GT" vs the "GT Premium". From what I've read around here and seen in other places, people have taken to calling the non-Premium version of each car the "base" Ecoboost or GT model. It's just word semantics so I apologize for any confusion. In reality the differences seem to be defined more by what type of interior options are available for each car. The "base" cars appear to share the basic six speaker single disc ( and hopefully Sat radio ready! ) stereo system where as once you move up the the Premium version of the EB or GT then you're actually locked into the 9" display screen, 9 speaker stereo system and other options become available such Nav, MFT, HD radio, Bliss, etc that you can't get on the non-Premium car.

I'm looking for a "base" car b/c I'm just not interested in that other stuff and optioning only PP & Recaros keeps me inside my budget of $30k. I just tacked on the spare tire and security system b/c it seems like a good idea, but if I can't get them I won't miss it as the other two options are what's important to me. Basically I'm looking for the most straight forward performance driving experience I can get in my budget range and the non-Premium ( i.e "base" ) / EB / M6 / PP / Recarro car lets me do that and w/ aftermarket tuners like Cobb and Lethal Performance already lining up to support this platform I have a feeling this car will be one the real performance bargains of the next few years.

I sold a Factory Five Cobra Daytona Coupe to get this car. It had no heat,AC, side windows, radio, or sound deadening. Absolute brutal driving experience just as Dan Gurney experienced in 1964. I wasnt using it as a track car as much as I anticipated so I sold it to someone that would and bought myself more of a performance oriented touring car.

Sort of. I started out with just a base GT and only adding the enhanced security package. Have added the reverse sensing system now as well.

I'm coming from a base 2011 V6..plastic everywhere , 4 speakers ...

So even the base GT will seem great to me :D I just wish I could've had 9 speakers as well...dont need leather or a big screen !

In my area all Base Eco's are Autos, Only Premiums for PP/Manual which are more expensive than my Base GT/PP/Recaro! I have no use for all the gadgets either and can not believe how much money it adds to a car.

I was actually going to get a base GT myself at first, until I realized the selectable drive modes are only available on the premium models. I'll be driving mine year round, and although I generally hate electronic nannies, I do think the snow/wet mode will actually be useful in winter here since we do see a good amount of snow. The biggest problem with sports cars in winter is the amount of power they put down, so an electronic system to help dumb down the throttle should reduce excessive wheel spinning on ice, I'm hoping. For whatever reason, I just don't like second gear starts lol.

Also, once I saw the base radio with all those stupid looking number buttons, I decided I need the 8" touch screen

I think mine is pretty basic...Fastback, Auto, Perf Pkg, that's it!

Ordered 5/28...no natta yet!

Not sure whether it's a retail order or dealer order....just thinking what difference does it make...it' will be here when it gets here.

In summary..."waiting impatiently"...Ha!

Heh, my dream build is to swap a TT 5.0 Coyote into my '01 Cobra and rebuild the original modular 4v to a overbore 5.0 and use it as a basis for FF Daytona Coupe w/ T56 trans and '03 Cobra IRS.

. . . I think I'll add A/C though 'cause I'm old and kind of a wus apparently. :thumbsup::lol:

THIS!

I can get X-plan through my employer but even w/ that bare bones optioning the base EB car was pretty much the only way to stay under my wife friendly $30k budget. The car I put together came in at about $28,200 w/ X-plan. If I looked at any of the Premium models the pricing shot well past $30k. Even a base GT w/ M6 / PP / Recaros shot up to almost $35k!

That's what I ordered....ETA soon:shrug:
I hate to say but it wouldn't surprise me if these sorts of lower optioned / base cars are superstitiously slid to the back of the line in the early production runs. Hopefully not though. :tsk:

Yeah, I decided to splurge and add the Recarros but given it's like a $1500 option I've kinda wondered if it's something I could do w/ out depending upon how supportive and comfortable the "standard" seats turn out to be?
