Any Michiganders with Winter/Snow experience?

With these winters that last 6 months long, it's not worth getting a beater. If it was a corvette.. thats a different story because it has zero ground clearance...the added cost of adding a beater is not logical as mentioned above...Heck ive seen people driving expensive BMWs and Maserattis here in the winter...

I've got a 2015 Ecoboost 50 years with manual transmission and no performance package, just the 19 inch wheels and factory all season tires. The car did fine last winter. Stability control makes rear wheel drive cars much better in the snow. I put two sand bags in the trunk just to help with weight a bit but that may not have been necessary. The snow mode makes it easier to modulate the pedal in deeper snow.

It drove better than my old 2005 CTS-V with Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires, which also had sand bags.

i agree, we should mandate this in the states. I know it costs people more money but I'm sure accidents and fatalities will drop after that. There are too many people that will attempt to drive on BALD tires around here alone... no good

People are bitching about buying an approx $1000 set of snow tires, while it's pretty much the amount of a deductible... While their snow tires will last em like 3-4 or even more winters, make em save their regular tires in the mean time, and might save their lives in some crazy conditions... But to each their own I guess

I'd like to live in a place where I could get a non-beat to hell Jeep for $1,200. I would still rather put the winters on the Mustang and drive that however

Looks like the overall consensus is to get good snows ( and ice), and that the car isn't that hard to manage as some make it seem. That relieves me a lot!!!! Thanks a lot for everyone's opinions and thoughts on the matter! Cheers!

I had all-seasons on my 2013 and it was adequate but barely. For my 2015 with performance package I bought Blizzak LM32's (performance winter). The car was amazing in the winter, but note that Windsor is flat and doesn't really get all that much snow. The 2015 has a lot better inherent balance than the 2013 but you still have to be mindful *ALWAYS* of your grip envelope, especially in the rear. With your commute there is no way I'd go all-seasons, and I'd lean towards ice-and-snows rather than performance winters.

The good thing is that without the performance package your wheel and tire selection is much better and cheaper.

It's awesome...a quantum leap over my 2013. The only real problem is that between the stiff ride and tiny backseat (smaller than the previous generation, amazingly) my wife and daughter don't want to ride in it.

Thanks for this input. I was wondering about the 50th with the all seasons in the snow. All my other Mustangs I have had to put on a set of winter tires (and, by the way, those Mustangs were a blast in the snow with good tires) but this one came with the all seasons and the snow mode. I was considering venturing into the late Fall and assess my needs on the first snowfall. My 2012 Focus I traded in for this car was terrible in the snow it is difficult to think this car can be any worse...until I remember the TRX tires on my first Mustang where you could get stuck on an inclined driveway in the rain!

I'm in Michigan too and will be driving my Ecoboost in the winter.
I bought some extra wheels (The ones from the stripe and wheel package) and will definitely be putting dedicated winter tires on those soon.

I lived in Japan for 12 years and had snow tires for my 2011 GT there. Couldn't get out of my driveway without them... Last year in March we were driving through Gunma Prefecture and got caught in a massive blizzard on a mountain. I took it very slow, but the Mustang pulled through like a champ. I'm a 100% believer in snow tires now.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat out here in Utah - I'll be getting dedicated wheels and snow tires for mine. I've been AWD here for 12 years... lol. This'll be a learning experience.

This was the first strictly rwd vehicle I've driven in the snow. (my truck is 4x4 for when its rough, but spends most of its time in rwd)
with a full set of blizzak LM-60's the mustang was great. I live on a hill and my driveway is an even steeper incline off of that and the driveway is my only worry because I have to slow all the way down to turn into it, although I didn't get stuck.

This past winter some idiot driver didn't carry any speed going up the hill in their little honda and was stuck spinning their tires half way up, of course 3 SUV's and my mustang trekked right on by. I didn't even use winter/snow mode, didn't really like the way it felt
