Any good sleuths on here?

I’ve been looking for my prior 86 GT for years and can’t seem to make a hit since I don’t have any other “tools” to track it down; years ago, last location via a CarFax was PA.

I still retain the original build sheet to it and proof of prior ownership via registration. The car has sentimental value of course…

I don’t belong to the Social Media side of things, so I know I’m limited in that aspect.

I’ve contributed a ton on here and many other Mustang forums over the many years of being in the hobby, so if anyone wants to pay it forward to me and give it a whirl, I can post more info…

I know it’s probably a long shot in hell, but I have never been able to get closure and have a feeling it is still out there somewhere.

Thanks.

I’ve long been curious what happened to my original 87Gt I bought new. The only way I can think of tracking a car down is someone with access to dmv records and there database’s. That may only get the search narrowed so far. I know some pi’s have ways of accessing that stuff, but the cost side is probably prohibitive.

If you have a friend in law enforcement that can run the VIN, that may be your best bet to narrow down the car’s location, provided it is still roadworthy and has been registered regularly. Having said that, an LEO may be reluctant to do this, unless he/she is truly a good friend of yours and knows for certain that you’re not up to something sinister.

Go to your DMV and give them the VIN. They may or may not tell you the owners name and address but they should tell you if it is registered and what State.

I don’t know about other states but in Florida to run a vin through one system you don’t need a reason, however, it’s audited so if it came into question that you’re misusing it you’ll get in trouble. The other system we use you’ll definitely get in trouble as you need a legitimate law enforcement reason to use it. Plus it can only tell you about records in Florida.
