Another question about Base vs Premium

It's all personal preference in the end. What works for one may not work for someone else. You can snag a base EB w/PP for around $23k but 5 years down the road, will you still be happy with cloth seats, a stereo resembling a 90's Mercedes Benz, etc:eyebulge:

A couple of weekends ago, I drove a 1970 Corvette with a 454. I couldn't tell you what stereo was installed, what the seats were made of or whether or not mood lighting was included. I had a ball driving it though. I find some of the comments here pretty laughable, but again....to each his/her own.

Lol.. this statement is more or less in line with my thought process.. With a GT, an X pipe and headers replace the stereo and the seats are there only to help prevent death.. :lol:

You know when people ask what do you drive and I respond a Mustang, they don't say: "oh.. is it a premium or a base model?" they ask: "V8 or V6?" or "Manual or Automatic?" then I tell them Turbo 4 Cylinder Auto and they look at me like:

What if Ford only offered a "lightweight" trim with no electronics, and today's base trim?

Would owners of the lightweight trim say, "who needs power windows, A/C and a 4" screen - it's all about the engine!"

I would get a lightweight trim. That's a perfect blank slate.

If you're only going to keep the car 2-3 years, consider a low mileage pre-owned 2015. There's quite a few of them out there now and well optioned cars definitely depreciate faster than the base model cars => good deal if you want any of the options. I was shopping for GT Premium and there was almost no difference in asking price whether the car had 400a or 401a, 50 Years AP, etc.

I was set on getting a New 2016 Base PP because that's what my budget allowed, but after looking around a little I found a 2015 Premium PP with < 2,000 miles on it for under 30k. I can say that I was 100% okay and ready to buy the base but ended up with a premium and I enjoy all the upgrades I have (leather, heated/cooled seats, drive modes, large touch screen) but mine is also a DD so I am in the car everyday.

And to all the people saying "I can buy a GT monthly" "I could have bought premium if I wanted" "Money isn't an issue" that's great, but at the end of the day you got what you wanted and the fact that you have to say the above quotes just makes you sound like a rich prick. No one cares how much money you have, we are just here to enjoy our Mustangs regardless of our financial situations.

I personally think this is a great idea except for the no AC thing.. gotta have AC at least.. Lol.

Given the state of the automotive industry however.. if Ford were to make a complete Stripper GT with zero amenities it would probably cost more than a base GT like a Superleggera Mustang... :lol:

I never told anyone that they should buy anything... I just gave my opinion that I enjoy the features that come with the Premium.

I also work for a living, as I'm sure most of us do, so I'm not really sure what you mean by this... :shrug:

that tiny 4" screen was enough to steer me away from a base, the leather, big screen, heated and cooled seats worth the upgrade

That BIG $5-6k price increase on a Premium package vs base was enough to scare me away

I was lucky the first time to find a sleeper on a dealer lot that had the performance package, the manual that I wanted, and a color I could live with (i.e. NOT bad boy black or some shade of gray-seems to be the going colors around here) the first time. When some idiot totaled that car, I had to order a replacement. No such luck finding one like that on a dealer lot the second time around :doh:

P.S. for me, $29k is about the top price I'm willing to pay for a new vehicle, considering my current financial condition...I could probably buy a more expensive car, but I'd rather pay the debt off as quickly as possible.

Well, you did imply you could expend roughly $40K a month on a car(s). Assuming this is the case, you must have some other pretty serious rides, you know, in addition to your Mustang ...

FYI, not sure if people know this, especially if they're not shopping for a convertible, but in the GT convertible, you can only get the Premium package (and you can't get the Recaro seats).

I guess they're figuring a certain buyer demographic, use case for the vehicle, etc., heck I was thrilled the Perf Pack became available for MY16.

I guess if my rides were my top priority, that would be so. But that isn't the case. I've got an A8L for the "family car" and an AWD Sorento for knocking around in the winter and hauling stuff. Nothing earth shattering. I send my excess dinero into savings or spend it on having nice places to live and college funds for the kids. My next super toy is going to be one of these:
