Could you please explain how you attached the mesh to the factory grill? The mesh you used looks fairly tough and hard to bend. Did you use an epoxy to attach?

Pretty sure I'm gonna go ahead and order the parts and do this myself...

I used the grill kit on the Customcargrills site, and their video was very helpful. The Goop auto adhesive works, but use too much and it will drool down over everything.

This is a definitely a job that takes some time and patience. Even using a plastic specific cutoff wheel like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HI5WUS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 you will need to take it slow and careful to get a good cut. If you don't your sanding time goes up immensely.

The labor of cutting, getting a nice smooth edge and a flush mesh mounting, and a good finished product is the main reason for the costs. DIY is fun, but sometimes it is worth paying someone for a guaranteed quality part. If you have any doubts about your skills, keep in mind how much cash you would throw away with failed efforts ruining your new factory grills, the mesh, etc.

ok Man, so...whats the deal, you have a simple break down of what you think the final cost and parts will look like?

I am certainly interested and the race mesh prices come with a crack pipe, let us know!

This is actually exactly what Nathanbrummer and i have been working on. Except with a more oem style plastic mesh

I'm working with OySmallFry on a group buy for a howler badge. Here's a mock up of how it will look.
~$500 is a pretty fair price point given the cost of materials and the labor involved

custom cargrills has theirs for $360 shipped which I would consider a fair price. $400 would be an absolute max i would have considered spending if mine wasn't already cut.

one day when I get bored enough and stop liking the open look I'll buy his DIY kit since my grille is already cut.

the one thing we can all agree on though is that the racemesh grilles are absurdly overpriced.

That $360 shipped is the cheaper grill material as well.

tbh you shouldnt be spending that much even using powder coated steel. if you broaden your search and contact manufacturers and are making several kits at once, the actual metal shouldn't cost much.

this isn't the same style as yours but proof how cheap these metal grills can come. you just have to find who makes what you want and buy it in bulk if you are really serious about selling more than 5-10 of these. even if you keep pricing the same as you originally thought, your profit will go up greatly.

The problem is that most of the metal mesh available is cheap, pliable, 2D stuff. Taking a closer look at most oem grilles, the depth to the mesh adds a lot to the look. The ebay stuff may be better than home depot chicken wire, but the customcargrille mesh is actually pretty quality stuff.

While I appreciate your insight, I refuse to put out a subpar product to meet the price restrictions of people who want to build their cars on the cheap.

I'm not looking to increase profits, I'm looking to provide a phenomenal grill at an affordable price, if it even gets to that point.

I will not sacrifice build quality in order to get a grill that the $200 buyer can afford. If you can only afford to shell out $200, make your own inexpensive version that will look like it cost just as much.

If you want a high quality grill made with high quality material, then I am working on a solution for that.

Frankly put, if you want a cheap grill that is inexpensive, there are options out there for you already. I am looking to tap into the customer base that wants the quality of Racemesh without paying a ridiculous premium.
