Well had a set back tonight. The drive belt they provided will not go on. I have the adjustable idler set at the lowest point or most slack and the belt will not go on even with the spring tensioner cranked all the way over.

I triple checked the pullies and all are per instructions.

Belt size is 82.5" and measured that. It's within an 1/8", on the high side.

So something is not to the instructions. I know I have a different spring tensioner because when I called Whipple today to go over a couple of things I asked about the arrows referred to in the instructions. Was told they added these to the tensioner. Also other poster on this thread indicated they had interference with the AC compressor. I do not. So it seems to me something has changed in the geometery of the pulley system. Could be the diameter of the water pump pulley but that is a stretch. I am thinking an 83.5" belt should do it. This leave room to adjust the idler pulley for stretch later.

Anyone else seen this?

And it was going so well....

Rob
Same problem I got a 83.5 haven't had a problem since. Glad to see im not the only one who couldn't get the whipple belt. on.

Latest word out of Whipple is that I got a 2011-2017 spring tensioner. They are over-nighting the correct spring tensioner.

I did get a Gates K060825 83.125" belt as a back up.

Tonight moving to next steps.

Here is how mine aligned with the larger belt. The idler pulley has a lot more to move too. Good luck with the rest of the install!

Drive belt update....

Got the 2018 spring tensioner and as I suspected the 82.5" still would not fit. I went with a 83.125" belt and sure enough went on easily. With the adjustable pulley all the way to the bottom or most slack position the arrows basically line up. I am sure I will have some minor adjustments as the belt stretches.

BTW, O'Reillys had this belt in stock.

Some delay this weekend. Boating season ending soon here in the northeast. So trying to get in a couple last weekends away.

Completed the fuel pump install though. Being focused on minimizing gas mess limited pictures.

The Whipple instructions could use some updating. I recommend this video for the DW400 install:

Tonight refill anti-freeze in the engine and fill the inter-cooler. Adding 2 bottles of Water Wetter to the engine and 1 bottle to the inter-cooler.

Install tune and hit the start button.... fingers crossed.

It's alive!!!!!

Changed oil and went with Mobile1 5w50. I am amazed how much the value train quieted down. Truly night and day difference.

Now time to reassemble.

Really good thorough write up here OP. Very nice. Your journey reminds me of mine last November. We did my install over 3 Saturdays. Its so many fricken steps and yes the instructions dont always jive with whats going on. Labeling all the parts and hardware would save a ton of time too IMO.

Funny you should ask....

That was one of tonights projects while reassembling. I have the ZL1 addons deluxe rock guards. The project was reattaching them as the double sided type was letting go. I used Gorilla tape all around. Lets see how that holds up. Rears are done. Fronts are off.

Got the facia back on tonight also. Note the chrome pony is gone.

Couple of views....
