Co-worker has a 2017 Fusion sport (Don't get me started on why this thing has more power than an EB mustang). It came with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Sounds to me like we should be sending emails to Chuck Gray at Ford, not Cara.
Who can get his email address???

The more I read about how 2017 models are out now with SYNC 3 and functional Android Auto, the more it makes me wonder what's up? This upgrade requires no hardware updates to our 2016 SYNC 3 system. What is holding Ford up?

Apple Auto requires a different USB port from what Ive read, hell I have Android, but Id be willing pay Ford to install the USB port, this can be the only reason they havent provided the update yet, they either dont want to foot the bill, or they dont want to break it to us that we have to pay. I had Android in my 2011 GT via a Pioneer headunit, I really really miss it, voice recognition is 10x better than Sync 3

I would say that is a good possibility though it wouldn't take long for Ford to source the necessary USB sockets once they settle on a solution...

just an update for those on android: android auto reads incoming WeChat text messages out loud in mandarin, and lets the driver use voice command button to send reply without having to unplug phone and type manually

There is litterally no reason to not go ahead and dump the software update onto the '16's. I don't need the stupid Apple usb port. I have android, like any other sane person and can run off of bluetooth.
100% i agree, why not let android users enjoy it at least:paddle:
