An Unlikely Comparison

So I was looking at some Magazines yesterday at Barnes and Noble and came across a picture that made me think about the 2015 Mustang. Especially the Shape of Quarter Panel by the Tail Light area when viewed from the side. It's been bugging me what car it reminded Me of until I saw the Pic in the Magazine. It reminds Me of a Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona Coupe. Even the shape of the DLO and the Quarter Windows have a Similar Feel to them.

Even Viewed from a Rear 3/4 view you can see the similarities. The Angle of the Rear Panel is Very Similar too. I know the Mustang looks more Muscular because of the Hips, but I see the similarities in the Greenhouse and Tail End.

Since the car's reveal I have "seen" the S550 in lots of cars and in certain angles. There were a few shots that reminded me of a 911 to be honest. The overhead and certain angles of the rear are the most 'exotic' looking to me which may be why I can see some of ferrari in it.

It says to me that the Ford designers did a masterful job of blending pure American Mustang design with some more exotic European styling fused into it. Something I can't quite put my finger on but I know it's in there when I see it.

Yep, I'll give you that. The 365 GTB/4 is my all time favourite Ferrari. Just gorgeous.

And S550 is a gorgeous Mustang

Mine too TwinTurbo, and I agree with both You and Callie the S550 is a Beautiful Mustang and a Materpiece of Ford Design. The Perfect Balance of All American Mustang Muscle blended with Some Fine European Exotic Refinement.

I hope we will one day get a totally honest account from the designers of the S550 as to what cars influenced their efforts. Not what cars influenced the Evos and the new Ford DNA, but just those that influenced the S550.

I honestly believe that the answer will be the Evos and the earlier Mustangs. Any similarity to the Ferrari 365, an Aston Martin, or any other car is probably nothing more than coincidence, and the fact that you can only do some things in so many ways.

I also believe that the S550 is an all new design that will have many of it's elements showing up in other cars for years to come.

Even the Head Restraints that We've seen on the Convertible look like those Used by Ferrari on the 365 GTB Daytona. I Personally hope the Coupes get those Same Head Rests, even though I have only seen them in the Red Eco-Boost Coupe from the Good Morning America Reveal.

Both are variations of what is known as a Kamm effect tail. Many high performance cars, as well as true racing cars use similar designs. Sadly, so does the Toyota Prius, which looks even more like the S550s.

You Can't Deny the Similarities though, Coincidental or Not.
I'm not trying anything. Just observation. I can't help that while I was looking for references I noticed another Similarity.

I know what a Kamm Back is. What I'm refering to Specifically is the Delta Shape that you see when the tail is viewed from the side by the Tail Light Panel. It's the angle and length of the two lines that form this Delta shape that are Very Similar in My Opinion. I am also refering to the forward leaning angle of the Rear Panel between the Tail Lights. Several people were complaining about this angle when the 2015 was first introduced. As I also noted, the shape of the actual Quarter Window and DLO or Side Window Outline Is very Similar.

As for the 2015 Mustang looking ANYTHING Like a Prius... Oh I Totally See It....
