I'd like to see what your lower grill looks like with the removal of "obstructions". I was also thinking of doing something similar for my CAI.

I'd also like to figure out at what temp you cross the threshold where you see the big power drops.

This IC is a beast, nice job!
I'll try to snap and host a low pic of the grill. As far as hp levels, that's all controlled by your tune, we did see 30hp diff on the factory stock IC vs a heat soaked factory IC. Our IC drops ait down near ambient and keeps it there, it's also recovers very quickly since it doesn't heat up as much and it has a huge ambient face.

Have you opened the grill up in front of the airbox inlet? We saw a .5 psi reduction in pressure drop at 70mph in our testing by simply drilling each dimple out in the stock grill, that's huge when your pushing the turbo to the right side of the compressor map...

Can you shoot a picture of this mod please?

UPDATE

We have just sold the final intercooler from the initial production run. Every one that was sold got rave reviews and we are proud to say they are on some of the fastest cars(drag racing)in the country and are also used with great results in road course and autocross racing. We have also listened to the masses on pricing and we are proud to announce that going forward we are going to manufacture them in a standard cast finish and lower price to $659 plus shipping! If end users want the higher end sandblasted with polished logo we can get that done as well for an upcharge!

Where are the grill shutters that they interfere with this intercooler? How did you get the small holes in the grille opening by the intake? Is that a screen behind it? Does this increase the chance of the intake ingesting water when driving fast in torrential rain?

My car is a daily driver. Ideally I would like the grill shutters to still work as I would bet it helps engine warmup in winter.....

Another question....is the factory charge plumbing a bad or restrictive design for a stock turbo car? Or not really anything to worry about until you're getting into big turbo territory?

The shutters have no impact on engine warmup. The thermostat is closed when the engine is cold preventing coolant from flowing through the radiator.

The shutters are an aerodynamic aid to help economy.

When it's -10 outside and I have the heater cranked, limiting that airflow likely also helps bring underhood temps up to a bit more normal.

Also if you have any tune at all the shutters will have been tuned to stay open 100% of the time. Even the OTS Cobb tune has them set wide open 100% of the time. I've experimented with the stock values on my car and noticed no difference in warmup time or fuel economy but I drive all in city traffic. It may help on highway driving. I have the shutters in place on the upper grille but removed on the lower grill.

Did u just cut the bottom half off and do u have any pics?? Also can your tuner set the shutters to work like factory?

I don't have any pics of it. I actually cut out the center support for the lower shutters, removed the shutters themselves, and unscrewed and removed the bar that connects the upper to the lower shutters. You will not be able to put them back to stock if you do it this way but it opens it up more with no center bar in there.

I have the Cobb Accesstunner Race software so I can change the tune as I want. you should also be able to ask your tunner if they can set them back to stock. When I loaded the stock shutter values I was surprised that they stay shut or almost shut most of the time in cooler weather. Basically when stopped they are open and when moving they are as closed as they can be while still allowing the car to stay cool.
