This doesn't make much sense? These new modes allow for manufactures to make the cars LOUDER than normal, but gives the operator the ability to tone it down to more "stock" levels. So you get MORE options now which is a bargain. There are plenty days I wish I was stock, some days I wish I was open exhaust, and sometimes I wish I had touring. This allows all of that.

I do feel like its pretty pointless though. My Corsa Sport is quiet when I need it to be and loud as hell when I get on it. It's the perfect balance.

On long trips my GT is probably the most comfortable car I have ever had for that purpose. I averaged (including drive-thru for coffee, stopping for gas, red lights, etc...) 74mph and 23.8mpg on my last ~320 mile trip to Northern Michigan and never felt exhausted or fatigued from driving. I never had drone or NVH or anything other than the obnoxious cupholders that buzz from time to time – which happened even prior to my exhaust mods.

Meanwhile when I came across a Camaro SS and Challenger 392 on the drive, they knew my car was modified and we had a little fun playing tag on the expressway thanks to the Corsa.

I already hate putting my car into Sport mode all the time for the improved throttle response... adding another electronic toggle for exhaust would drive me nuts.

I guess it's pretty cool that there is more tech being pumped into these cars (the giant 12" digital tach setup for editing menu options is dope) -- but I just wish the options you choose at any given moment would persist between turning the car off and back on. As long as you don't need to toggle something every damn time, I'd be cool with it.

this might sound weird... but am i the only one that doesnt like that all the new muscle cars are having options for exhaust notes.. (quiet, sport, track, etc..) .. a loud muscle car exhaust was one of those things that was a privelage to have and one of the main things that sets our cars apart from just average performance car/sports car/muscle car. i love the technology and how extreme the competition is getting in the muscle car world because we the consumers benefit greatly, but i can already see most people having the camaro 1le and mustang gts in track mode 24/7 and especially the "parents money" kids just being obnoxious and trying to race and doing dangerous things, which is what us mustang owners DONT need. lmao .. we already hit 1 too many walls in our history
An adjustable exhaust isn't going to change what people drive Mustangs, nor how they drive them.

And FWIW Mustang never has been, and isn't now, a "Muscle Car".

It was a Pony car, but now it's a Sports Coupe. Think of it as a cut-rate BMW M4, a Sports Coupe/Ground Touring (GT) car.

I've always thought of the S550 as the "Poor Man's DB9."

I do agree though, if more people understood what the car is designed to be (an affordable GT car) and appreciated it as such, more people would be satisfied with their purchase. Too many people wanting the car to be/making it into something it was never meant to be.

You're absolutely right. The looks, especially the side window profile, are very similar. And the front end. I've said that before myself, many times.

I couldn't agree more. So many Mustang owners want them to be something they're not. Buy them for what they are, and you'll be duly impressed.

Being objective, a Mustang did nothing but straight-line acceleration well until the 2011MY BPP cars. Those cars were pitted against the M4 and won in car mag testing. So regular folks still think a Mustang is just some straight-line hero, and miss that they're well-rounded Sports Coupes/Grand Tourers.

I bought a Mustang to have a muscle car and the sound that goes with it, it's not a prius and shouldn't sound like one, a wind up toy ( I still can't believe their coming out with a hybrid Mustang). I guess I'm just indifferent on this subject. I see the point of having the option to go loud or go prius but I also see this as more crap that can go wrong with the car.

I drive my car everyday, I want it to sound like a Mustang should sound, baddass! If you see a Mustang drive by but can't hear it there is something wrong with that picture.

O.k......

Let's be real about what people really think about Mustang owners;:lol:

1. They're douchebags.
2. They're douchebags having a mid-life crisis.
3. They're douchebags that crash at Cars & Coffee, while having a mid-life crisis.

So, forget about what other people think. Hell, a Mustang isn't even something that gets attention from females. They do, however, get attention from other middle-aged douchebags at Cars & Coffee.

If you're going to own a Mustang, Camaro, M4/M3, etc., you'd better just focus on enjoying the car for your own reasons, and forget what anyone else thinks. I love my car for my own personal reasons, and drive it despite what most of the rest of the population thinks about it.

If you like to hear the exhaust, great, go for it. If you're going LOUD to impress other people, you're doing it wrong.

Back in college, there was nary a night I had a good sleep because of all the attention seeking @ssholes that ripped down the street beside my house in their stacked diesel trucks, fart-cannon imports, and yes, many obnoxiously loud mustangs/camaros etc.

I don't want to sound like a hypocrite because the first thing I usually do when I go for a drive is switch to loud mode. But I want a system that can maintain a level of decorum when necessary and raises hell when it is time to have fun.

I have no desire to become the aforementioned @sshole and wake my neighborhood & family up at night. Switchable exhausts or well designed systems like Corsa are win/win and a good thing for performance cars.

But all the new and fancy sport cars and exotics that cost from as much as a mortgage and and a 3rd world country's GPD have them....

I'm actually with you. I think the variable (valved exhausts with degrees of decibels) are kinda neat and quirky feature. At the same time, I always have longevity in mind, and I'm curious to see how long this technology lasts and how it'll be repaired in the future or if it requires replacing entire exhausts. But it's all in the execution and if it's produced in a manner that promotes long life and durability.

I much prefer to by an aftermarket exhaust with the ONE sound that I like, than an exhaust with multiple options. Or OEMs could just make an exhaust that sounds good. Why Ford couldn't make Mustang sound decent stock like GM did with Camaro and Corvette, I do not know. Not to say the Coyote sounds bad, because it doesn't, the stock exhaust sounds so restricted it just needed more volume to sound great from the factory without aftermarket assistance.

Badass . . . I really wouldn't want my car to have anywhere near that much of an "in-your-face" presence. I have zero desire for demanding the kind of attention that 'badass' would get from others. Doesn't matter if the attention is appreciative, disapproving, or anywhere in between.

Enough sound to hear if you're up close, or enough for the GoPro to pick up on its build-in microphone at a track day is fine.

I posted something similar in another thread. The ONLY reason to have a quiet mode on A STOCK exhaust is if the other modes make your ears bleed. Then it's reasonable. But usually, unless you're in a high dollar sports car, stock exhaust systems aren't unreasonably loud. I've never had one noise complaint about my car, I'm running Stainless Works long tube headers and Solo Performance 3" Mach Thunder. (maybe no complaints because it's no good? LOL)...As I said before, you don't need an active exhaust to not be an A-Hole.

If you don't want noise, and still get a reasonably quick car that can be modded and produce good HP, Ford offers an Ecoboost Mustang, which is a great option.

I just feel like if you're wanting a quiet car with speed, maybe a mustang isn't for you. It's like going to a donut shop and asking for a bagel. Hybrids and super cars are a completely different class of vehicle. I think it's a mistake for Ford to try and emulate the Euro market for super cars. Why change from a class and field of cars the Mustang has dominated for over 50 years?

I think the features are cool, just not something that should be implemented in the Mustang. Also, what does it mean for the future of Mustang? Discontinuing the V8? It feels like Ford is taking a step in a direction that American Muscle car and Mustang enthusiasts may end up hating in the end.

Oh and adding an aftermarket exhaust that will cooperate with that new feature probably won't be cheap.

The stock car is pretty quiet, and it's for most Mustang owners.

Those that want a sweet Grand Tourer don't want an exhaust that's loud. And since GT means Grand Tourer, a GT's exhaust is tuned to be melodious, but not ridiculous.

I actually think the stock exhaust is perfect. Loud enough, but silent when cruising on the freeway.

I think I'm the only person left on this planet (or on this forum) that refuses to call them anything other than pony cars; the Mustang and Camaro at least. The only modern cars I'll call "muscle cars" are the previous GT500s and ZL1, and the Hellcat/Demon.

i did up until the s550 honestly... theyve become so much more than the pony cars we've known. These cars are far superior to what I used to consider a pony car.
