i though the mustang and camaro were sports cars now.. the challenger is the only muscle car.. just throwing that out there
Not yet.

The cornering g's and road course lap times are competitive (or can be made to be without re-engineering everything), but the nimbleness and the 'light touch' that you get with cars half a ton or more lighter isn't there. That's just the performance-oriented side of the question; feature-wise, the Mustang is clearly a GT car, almost a luxury GT car in some cases.

I do agree about the Challenger, at least to date. I'm not sure how a more road course capable version (that may be in the works?) would - or should - be categorized, assuming that it remains as large and heavy as it currently is.

I prefer to have the option to open it up and hear it when I want to, and be a polite member of society at other times. You do you, though... I like hearing other peoples' cars!

None of them are sports cars, none of them will ever be sports cars. What the marketing reps call them is on them, they are not sports cars!

You guys need to remember too that many motorsports organizations and locations have sound limitations too. Some are more strict than you'd think. Like it or not, agree with it or not, that's the reality.

I think I'm the only person left on this planet (or on this forum) that refuses to call them anything other than pony cars; the Mustang and Camaro at least. The only modern cars I'll call "muscle cars" are the previous GT500s and ZL1, and the Hellcat/Demon.
Charger? Chevy SS?

And no, you're not the only one.

If you don't want noise, and still get a reasonably quick car that can be modded and produce good HP, Ford offers an Ecoboost Mustang, which is a great option.
EB is not an option here, as long as there's a good NA engine backed by a manual transmission elsewhere in the lineup.

I'm OK with having a little more exhaust sound than the average car, but I do not believe that just because it has a V8 under the hood that it must bellow that news out to people on the next block.

this might sound weird... but am i the only one that doesnt like that all the new muscle cars are having options for exhaust notes.. (quiet, sport, track, etc..) .. a loud muscle car exhaust was one of those things that was a privelage to have and one of the main things that sets our cars apart from just average performance car/sports car/muscle car. i love the technology and how extreme the competition is getting in the muscle car world because we the consumers benefit greatly, but i can already see most people having the camaro 1le and mustang gts in track mode 24/7 and especially the "parents money" kids just being obnoxious and trying to race and doing dangerous things, which is what us mustang owners DONT need. lmao .. we already hit 1 too many walls in our history
People around do not give give a damn about coolness of your loud exhaust. This does not make them think you or your car is cool. On the opposite - they will most likely hate or curse you altogether with your car if that wakes up them up at night or disturbs them in any other way in heir home.

I had a neighbor with rx7 and really loud exhaust whose son was exiting garage and warming /revving up his beauty for 5 minutes before moving out of neighborhood. Windows were vibrating in my house and I could even clearly hear that while taking a shower in the shower room. My little daughter and the whole family was woken up not at the time they should/wanted but at the time that damn kid was going to his errands. I felt really bad for not being able to protect my family from that. The exhaust was definitely beyond legal limitations, I knew that as I was autoxing frequently back then and we had measured exhaust levels on cars as some sites were enforcing noise limits.

So one day I had a conversation with head of their household and explained him the situation and offered to call the police and measure sound kevels etc. That made them warm engine up within closed garage for the next several months. Lots of neighbors thanked me for that. They moved out of Neighborhood several month later but that was not because of my conversation and for titally different reasons.

Sometimes I wonder how well that term is received over on Camaro5/6 when it shows up on those sites:lol:

Closer to the stated topic, I've been a fan of X-piped V8 engines since fabricating a similar kind of system for a 1979 V8 Chevy Malibu. Its required-to-be-present cat (naturally, the highest flow available) became the "X", out to two low restriction mufflers. It had a distinctive 'voice' all the time, but only a little more of it than stock. It didn't get loud until you were well into the throttle and the revs were up over 3000 rpm, which was easily avoided in neighborhood and in-town driving. But there was this nice snarly echo off those tall concrete Jersey-barriers in the medians when you hit that range with a little . . . ummm, "enthusiasm".

When I had my previous mustang's I wanted to be heard from blocks away lol. My girlfriend at the time, her neighbors complained when I left late at night lol. Now that I am a bit older, leave my house before my neighbors are up, and live alot closer to my neighbors, the idea of a quiet mode until I get out of the neighborhood is a nice feature.

My quiet mode involves shifting at lower rpms and controlling how much I press the throttle. This doubles as economy mode too. I'm averaging 24 mpg combined city/hwy.

i live in a townhouse community and i start my car (catless longtubes w/awe track catback) at around 6-630 in the morning and idk if just all my neighbors are up by then or they just think its thunder but i havent gotten any complaints so far, both of my neighbors are cops and they both compliment me and say they cant hear it, neighbors across the street say the same, i also keep it under 2k rpm when leaving the neighborhood because i like being loud but not disturbing people. idk if i have cool neighbors or what, but i always ask when my neighbors are outside and they dont complain, even the ones with newborn babies, they say it doesnt wake them up, so im thankful to be able to have a loud exhaust with everyone being okay with it :first:

if the challenger TA 392 had some weight reduction it would be a very good contender in the "big booty judy" category. :D
