All seasons or winter tires?

Hi all just a quick update, ordered the Blizzak's today and will install them on the 26th. I decided on winter tires because I'm keeping my stock summer ones so having a dedicated winter and summer setup sounded more ideal to me.

Hi all, here's an update on how everything is so far with my Blizzak's.

After 1000 miles on them, I'm feeling a lot more confidence in my driving. Shortly after installing them, we had a bunch of snow days and we even got sleet/snow from that snowstorm on the North East.

That doesn't stop me from driving out though, the tires are great. They are much more comfortable on the road when driving over potholes and such and they look great with the PP wheels. The only time I ever use snow/wet mode is when we had freezing sleet that actually froze the asphalt a couple days ago. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase and definitely have peace of mind when driving in bad conditions.

I hadn't had snow tires since the late 70's and didn't think I needed anything but all seasons. When I got my Focus ST it cane with summers so I knew I needed to do something and debated just trading the stock tires for all seasons but I couldn't do it for a reasonable cost. So I wound up getting winter tires and another set of rims.

I was so blown away by how much better they work than all seasons in all winter conditions; snow, ice, wet and dry. I would even go so far as to say they made my FWD ST better in snow than my 4x4 pickup. I will never be without winter tires again.

Here is my EB on its winter tires. The wheels are a TireRack house brand and the tires are 225/55-18 Dunlap Winter Maxx tires.

I live south east of Boston and we got almost 20" of snow last week and another 10" today. The Mustang handles it just fine.

I'm making due in all season just fine in NJ. Lots of snow but roads are plowed to where all seasons work quite well.

A friend of mine has a C6 ZO6 with Super Sports he runs in the winter, has never had a problem. I'll be putting super sports on my car this week. As long as you keep your foot off the peddle, you'll be fine.

I've driven SupertSport A/S 3's before. AMAZING tires, but I would not want to try getting unstuck from a snow bank in them. Might replace the stock Pirellis with them on my "summer" wheels, though.

You say the A/S 3's are amazing. I'm debating between the Super Sports or A/S 3's. Which are better in your opinion to use with regards to dry/wet, warm/cold. No ice/snow involved. Getting new wheels and tires, not sure which to go with.

Super Sports get the easy nod for warm, dry pavement; for ultimate grip in autocrossing, they win. The A/S 3's are better in literally every other instance -- wet grip, cold temperature (below 50 degrees), everything. And the dry warm grip of the A/S 3's is better than that of the stock Pirelli PZero summer-only tires. The A/S 3 is just a remarkable, unbelievable tire. It would be my choice for everything but competition.

I drove them both on a friend's Cayman; he used the A/S 3 as his everything-but-autocross tire and Supert Sports for competition. Would have liked to try out a PS2, but, alas.

Also, can't stress enough how amazing the X-Ice Xi3 is. Driving on ice with a freezing rain downpour today felt like dry pavement. It powers in and out of eight-inch snow mounds that I'm forced to use as parking spots with ease.

It doesn't have anything in the way of at-the-limit grip (the treads just collapse on themselves), but it's astonishing how awesome they are in winter weather.

You may be getting by with all seasons but until you try a modern winter tire you can't even imagine how much better they are. And it's not just snow covered roads, they are vastly superior on cold dry pavement, wet pavement and on icy roads.

Get a set of Blizzaks! There's no comparison between them and a all season tire in this freezing Northeast Winter! Especially when u have a rwd car with at least 300hp
