Livernois sells the kit with the insert already removed called the severe windstorm. However, don't bother asking them about the maf size, they require you to purchase thier tuner and tuning. Yes, after spending the $442.87 (including shipping) they basically tell you to hump a stump on the maf size. I'll never buy anything from them ever again.
LOL, well, Livernois contacted me today and gave me some good info on their Severe Windstorm cai vs the standard Windstorm cai. As of right now, this is the only intake I know of that has an enclosed box and a larger size. It's like, having a JLT AND Airaid rolled into one!! I think this is the one for me!! Thanks Livernois!!

So is a Severe Windstorm the same as an Airaid with the restriction cut out of it?

And is a standard windstorm exactly same as Airaid?

Yes running a tune designed for a jlt intake with an airaid would run like complete crap, the maf transfer needs to be correct for each intake.
Didn't run at all when I tried it. Just cut out after a second or so!

Yes, that is what it looks like to me. The Windstorm is the same as the Airaid and the Severe Windstorm is the same as the Airaid if you cut out the insert. One thing I am not sure of is whether Livernois cuts it out or produces it to the cut out specs. I'll ask them.

I think it is produced for them by Airaid to their spec without the insert, so they are not just cutting them out they are made that way for them. :)

I would say out of enclosed box enclosures the severe windstorm is the best on the market that is proven and keeps IAT down.

Those who want open CAI type well the PMAS and JLT seem like the best offerings.

Removed mine today and now idle/driveability is not right. Do I need my tune adjusted?

Yes, before I went with the GT350 IM I was running Bama and not Lund for a short time. Bama had a hell of a time getting the tune right for the insert cutout as I was previously tuned for the insert still in. They eventually got good drivability and idle tune to me the day before I swapped the manifold after like 5 renditions. I was having lots of issues with throttle return on their first 4 tunes and it wouldn't idle for sh1t.

Just imagine with me for a second if your tune was right the FIRST time, just messing with you. Glad that you finally got it running correctly though. I know personally how irritating that is. It happens to us during internal testing all the time. #WeAreTestDummies
