Good evening (at least where im from ;) )

i wanted to ask you guys, wether or not cutting of and plugging the hole from Air resonator of the Stock intake would yield in a little bit of an improved intake noise? The reason i am not simply using a CAI, is that it is illegal in germany. I was going to wait for the Ford CAI, but they seem to be taking forever. Sorry if this question might seem a bit silly, but i couldnt find antyhing regarding this specific question for our generation of mustangs

Buy a GT350 cold air intake? It's a factory piece, maybe that is not illegal. No idea on German laws, so I could be completely wrong.

No, you can plug the 3rd vacuum port, and use a coupling that fits the stock TB (cut it to like ~1" long or so) and put the GT350 intake over that coupling and clamp it down.

At least that is what I'll be doing to mine.

Thats pretty interesting if true. But then how does an aftermarket result in increased HP? However small it might be.

by the way, for the previous Mustang Generation there was an Intake resonator delete kit, even from the Ford racing Team.

That one was after the MAF though, on the S550 it is pre-maf and does not obstruct airflow in any way, so it is doubtful that removing it will do anything for power, the only change might just be sound.

Article has a server lack of knowledge about the Helmholtz effect.paradoxically? Sound waves can cancel each other no mystery there. While yes intake manifolds do take advantage of the Helmholtz effect to improve performance it creates a loud whhhhhrrr noise. This us similar to when you blow over the top of an open bottle. In the manifold it would resonate pressure back and forth between cylinders and improve performance.

Remember just because the pressure waves move at the speed of sound does not mean the air is moving at the speed of sound.

The little plastic muffler on the intake tube has the same effect. It's there to cancel out most of of not all the noise made by the intake manifold. That is all. Besides causing unnecessary turbulence in the intake tube leading to the manifold reducing good air flow and hence power. I would say if you want noise remove it and if you want a free horse power or two remove it.

The pulses in the intake will be going back and forth between the valve and throttle body. The pulses in the tumor resonator will be going in and out perpendicular of the intake tube so as more air moves faster past it the flow disturbance will increase .

I would suggest searching air ram in here. There was a company, I can't remember the name, but they made a product that just replace that part of the intake and moves the end closer to the grill. It was a very nice looking product. I will continue to search for the post.

Another Helmholtz effect people might be familiar with is in a car that the mirrors don't direct air away from or into the window and you have the window open you get a buffering sound that no one likes. Rear Windows are especially bad.
