I've also read what others have said - that they couldn't tell much of a difference after sound tube delete- so perhaps I'm giving it too much credit.

I noticed two things in particular: less cabin noise when I didn't want it, and better tip in throttle response, which I didn't expect, but made sense after the fact.

And tip in with the stock air box is a billion times better then with my now shelved JLT air intake.

The 2018 stock intake has the front resonator removed, but the second one remains. I wonder if the readings are as clean as the 15-17 stock one since the 18 is bigger. Since I've got an 18 manifold, I may see how well it does.

Just read this: https://itstillruns.com/air-intake-resonator-do-12156112.html it says it's basically a Helmholtz resonance chamber https://newt.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/Helmholtz.html, which controls Pressure Wave Harmonics http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Waves/funhar.html. Hence the reason why it's there on stock intake airboxes. Which begs the question, why are none to be found on aftermarket CAI's?

This is one of the reasons the mishimoto tube works, FYI, and they talked about it during their development. The big bulge in the middle replicates the extra volume of the resonator and allows for an expansion chamber of sorts.
