Porting stock intake behind throttle body

Haven't seen any real info on it? A buddy of mine swears by it, just porting the area behind throttle body the throat area and removing the little fingers in there, no touching anywhere else in there. He did his own and a few other intakes on the s197 style coyotes and they all seem to like it they said not only can they hear a difference but can feel a difference too. He swore he had before and after dyno numbers but can't find the sheet. Wondering if there is any benefit to it.

They only serve to keep the intake from potentially whistling at wot...part of that whole nvh nonsense
