I'm planning to install a pair of 2 1/6" aftermarket gauges in the standard PP gauge location. I've reviewed diagrams and planned out where I can run the wires. These will be for monitoring temps during track use.

A couple questions:

Should I use some wire looming / conduit once the wires exit the firewall just to be safe?

Are Autometer Ultra-Lite gauges generally considered the standard?

I like the idea of some of the gauges that light up when you're over a set temp, but they're a little pricey. Are they worth the extra cash?

Thanks in advance!

I generally use short duct tape strips to secure wires where I believe the wires may be vulnerable. That also limits possibility of rattles, which could occur with the added mass of a loom/conduit.

I have gauges with warning lights that can be programmed to turn on at low and high thresholds. I am not 100% sure if I had one of those 1/8" diameter warning bulbs come on in my peripheral vision, that it would register in my mind. (My eyes are more focused on what is directly ahead of me.) I do glance at the gauges to my right periodically and will notice negative trends when doing so.

There may be someone selling a 2+ inch gauge where the entire face blinks/glows when breaching a threshold! If so, that gauge face would be more apt to catch my attention than a 1/8 inch constant glow LED.

I've been using the AEM xseries gauges for a little while now and they are awesome. You can set up peak warning lights and they have a nice auto dimming feature where you dont need to splice into a separate fuse to dim your gauges at night. They are a bit pricey though.

Where are you running the wires through? I ran mine through a grommet that I used for the sound tube hole in the firewall. The hardest part is removing the sound tube. I just used some wire harness tape for the in-cabin portion, and ran the wires through some fiberglass mesh tubing for the engine bay. Zip tied them out of the way of anything sketchy.

Any pics of your AEM setup? I've seen a couple people with the Classics and they look interesting. I'm having a hard time deciding between something like those and the pics of Speedhut gauges I've seen here.

My sound tube is already out because I have the Power Pack 3. I will use that hole for sure.

Don't mind the third gauge. I dont have the oil pressure sensor plugged in yet.

If you are running through a grommet, loom isn't super necessary, although it would help clean up the look underhood.

If it was me and I was driving on track, I would spring for gauges with a warning. When you're in the zone, it's easy to miss that the car isn't happy. Extra money for gauges vs extra money for engine, basically.

Just some Auto meter Sport Comps mounted into a Ford Performance Boss gauge pack. It was a pretty straight forward install. used grommets where I had to drill thru the firewall just behind the battery tray and tapped into the fuse box using a "add a circuit"

Worth reaching out to them if it's something you want. I've only ever dealt with wengerd for the s550 platform so I cant say much about any other tuner.
