Hi everyone,

I went to my local Ford dealer today who had a GT in stock/ Magnetic Grey with all the options going for £39,000. 56 miles on the clock and the new Sync 3 system. My questions are:

1) Do I go ahead and buy this?!
2) Anyone know the best way to finance through Ford if I want to pay it off in 1-2 years with a bulk payment?
3) The guy was selling it on the view that the new tax system in April won't be favorable to the Mustangs and the price will increase most probably above £40k!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

If it's the spec you want then go ahead - was it an auto? price seems a bit steep otherwise

if you can do it then you're better off using a bank loan if you want to pay off lump sums - you'll get a better rate I suspect depending on status. Ford Credit isn't the cheapest around and iirc the small print says you don't own the car until you've paid it off

On the tax, anything over 255 grammes per kilometre emissions pays £2k initial tax then £140 per year thereafter, UNLESS it's over £40k then there is a surcharge of £310 on top of the £140 for the first 5 years

A mustang with all the options with that paint manual 6 speed currently retails at about £37500 on the road.

The value of this car with regards to VED is about £36300. I would very much doubt that ford will increase the price by £3700 before April... but who knows

If it stays below £40K minus road tax and delivery then you would be better off waiting for a delivery after April

Yes, so overall the new rates are better for the mustang providing it doesn't go over £40K. There would have to be a 2K hike before April to push this particular model above that, which seems unlikely.

Regarding the finance, whilst its probably a bit more to go with Ford fiance or whatever it is, there may be added 'protection' such as being able to walk away after half has been paid (consumer credit act stuff etc.).

Thanks everyone. It is a GT manual with all the options and this includes the initial road tax of 1200 and the usual registration fees etc. Still a bit steep?

It's about £1500 over book price. And because of the very recent price hike it's about £2250 more than it should have cost. So they're making £2250 on top of the standard mark up....

I suppose that's the cost of getting straight into one without the wait...

That will be a pre-registered car that their either had from cancelled order or some other reason. It is not "new" in that being technically 2nd hand they can mark the price up. If you want it then buy it but you are paying a premium over new to avoid the wait.

Andy Barratt on here said there were 19 Mustangs in stock the other day looking for buyers so if you can find one of those that is not yet registered then they will have to sell it to you for current RRP. Could be worth calling around a few dealers or drop the girls an email [email protected] and see if they can find you one.

You can also email [email protected] and Andy should help you find one.

Yep - Andy Barratt (MD of Ford UK) posted a couple of days ago saying there were 19 or so Mustangs in stock in the UK

Ok just priced this up and it should be £38425 including shaker system, climate seats, sensors, premium paint and silver stripes. The extra must have been extended warranties they were trying to sneak in there. I think you guys are right that it was a cancelled order. I think I will probably order a new one however painful it may be to wait! That way it gives me chance to save also!!
