Aren't you folks worried about the legal ramifications of getting caught doing 164 or 155 or 90+ even? I mean, I've definitely done my fair share of top end testing in days gone by, but damn, are you ready for that jail sentence? Just curious.
Not really.

There are places in the western states where speed limits are 85, the fines are not terrible and quite frankly so much highway they are not able to patrol them well. If you drive at night between grand junction colorado and green river utah there is nothing out there but straight road and no traffic, same for I-15 in Utah. I watched the Gold Rush rally guys blow by me on I-15 and I was doing about 90, they just disappeared.

Now I won't tell folks to break the law but then there are organized events like the silver state classic also. http://www.silverstateclassic.com ha ha one of the straights is 14 miles long. Think my brother is running this in his Boss, maybe. I might go course work it.

There are also some tracks that you can get over 155 if your car can pull fast enough, a friend just did 147 on a local track where the front straight really isn't that long, in a McLaren that is ;)

Not being moral. Not saying anything about danger either. Just asked about the police and jail situation.

Just didn't want it to degrade into a speed debate as these threads normally do. Apologies.

No. Everyone thinks they won't get caught. Until they get caught. I rarely go 5 over the speed limit which is why I didn't opt for the v8.

Same here, 75-80 is the highest I go. Too many tickets...

When I do make a top speed run outside of the track. It's a road well known to me away from industial and residential areas with no turn ins. I do a thorough check of the entire road to ensure its deserted before I run. Though visibility is very good, I still have to worry about a gator or armadillo crossing the road.

From my calculations, it had to be with 3.31 gears and near redline in 5th gear.

6900 RPM with MT82 in 5th gear and 3.31 diff =164 MPH.

6900 RPM with MT82 in 5th gear and 3.73 diff =146 MPH.

3.73 gears will hurt the top end on this car. 6th gear is too tall to pull beyond 146 MPH, which would only be 4500 RPM and is not where this motor makes enough HP to pull in 6th gear. IMO, 3.73 differential in the PP is meant for acceleration to 145 MPH. 5th gear is your top end gear in the MT82 regardless of what differential you have.
After you shift to sixth gear you have to press the red NOS button on the steering wheel to go faster :D I m sorry i can't help it

Personally... I absolutely love the 3.73 final drive. What I really would like to see is a sixth gear revision so it's "closer" to fifth gear... hence close ratio. All other gearing is good for me.

Fyi, a tune doesnt eliminate the governor, it repositions the threshold past the point where it would have affect on this particular application.

Well legally where I live (Germany) I've had mine to 155 range with 3.31's on the autobahn. There was a little too much traffic for me to try the top speed out but I still had a little more to go. One day when there is a barren autobahn and no chance of someone going into the fast lane in front of me I'll give it another shot. Only one reason I didn't get the PP was the gearing for over here. When I get back stateside I'll drop the 3.73's in it.

I want a Tremec 6070 swap.

Is a gear swap something you can do for 6th, we do it all the time on bikes.

Kinda get your explanation on the limiter but "repositions-particular application"?

It's easier to just swap the gearbox. Tremec makes several variations that fit the mustang. Not much aftermarket to be had for the MT82

It still pulls past 145, but like you say, it falls hard when you enter sixth.

I have a dyno tune, and make ~50 horses over stock in the 2-4k rpm range. So, that's definitely helping.
definitely falls off in 6th. I have the 3.73s

If my 6th gear felt like 5th... wow..
