So, as we all know, the stereo's in the Mustangs are less than ideal... Especially the rear fill. My car has the 9 speaker system and its very disappointing, I am curious to know if anyone has added additional speakers (not subs) in the rear passenger area? I will be doing a rear seat delete using the ZEnclosures for the top and building a panel for the bottom area.

If anyone has added additional speakers in the rear, please share some pics and any ideas would be appreciated.

Added 2 stand alone tweeters in the rear with self contained housing to brighten the sound. Ran the wiring off the rear speakers. Housings were stick on to the rear sail panels. Improved the sound quality. Also runnig a sub in the trunk and resest eq with Forscan. Finaly satisfied with the sound.

I added a pair of JL Audio C3 650 convertibles. They fit behind the rear panel, np.

Interesting. I've got the B&O system in my '23. Those two rear deck speakers are absolutely the weakest, most pathetic sounding speakers that I've ever heard. I also would love to replace them, but I'm wondering if that would do any good. I think that they're classified as woofers and may be fed a signal that lacks mid and upper frequencies. I'm very interested in any advice!

I have heard mixed reviews on replacing them. The ones that seem the happiest replace them and add an external amp along with using a punch to place holes in the carpet covering.

Yeah, a separate amp would probably take care of a limited-frequency signal if the stock amp has it filtered. Thanks!

I’m curious why you want to add a separate three way in the rear? Just from an audiophile perspective your rear should be fill and not surround sound. When properly staged you shouldn’t even notice the rear speakers playing.

That being said, it’s your car and your money so if it were me I’d replace the rear deck with 6.5” components and then you can run speaker pods on the rear sail panel for the 3.5 and tweets.

To get better sound out of the rear deck you’ll need to punch the holes out that cover the speakers. That carpeting is really thick and kills the output of those speakers. Here’s how it looks when done.

I used a double din kenwood just added a 12". Unfortunately I only have the factory system. The 6" China speakers suck. Got some jl audio and haven't looked back. The fade is also adjusted to make the rear speakers have more of a surround effect. Also there are several options in the kenwood that dsps use to have. finally deck technology has caught up to dsp quality and are included in the stero

I agree with the stereos in Mustangs being less than ideal. I've heard all of them and the B&O seems to be the most decent. I also have the 9 speaker Shaker system. I immediately upgraded everything because I'm a bit of an audiophile and since I spend a decent amount of time in my car, I love hearing some great tunes along with my exhaust.

I ended up going with infinity Kappa components for the front and I added the 2 inch MX add on to make my 2 way components an official 3 way component. The rear deck in my honest opinion is not necessarily needed but it is pretty good if your just filling up the sound. I ended up adding a set of infinity kappa coaxial 6x9s in the rear but I have them pretty low. My main goal was to get the front image as best as possible.

I have a fully passive set up for all of the front speakers. To top it off, I have 2 JL audio 13.5 inch shallow subwoofers. I have a DSP and everything is powered by Rockford Fosgate amplifiers.

Setting up the frequency and time alignment is crucial to get the exact sound needed. This takes away having to add any additional speakers. Also adding sound deadening and closed cell Foam in door panels, around speakers, and in your trunk will make a huge difference.

In my personal opinion additional rear speakers aren't needed and it may not be any benefit to it. One thing that I would recommend is to use AI to assist on getting the exact sound that you're looking for. I was able to achieve exactly what I wanted with my setup using AI and something that would have took me 4 hours to do with all of my settings only took 10 minutes.

You can give it the year, make, and model of your car to start. Give it the exact set up that you currently have including the speakers, model of the speakers, model Subwoofer(s), box dimensions of you have it, amplifiers being used, dsp being used if you have one, LOC being used if you're using one.

This will set up for it to know exactly what you have. Now you'll need to get personal with it. Tell it your exact height and the genre of music you like. Ask it to give you a specific recommended song from each genre to test.

You'll then need to give it specifics on what you're looking for. You can tell it you want it to sound like you have more speakers that what you have if you'd like. For me I gave a prompt of making my music sound as close to a live concert as possible and a mixture of how music would sound with an expensive pair of headphones with the best sound quality.

The last prompt after giving the specifics would be to ask for it to give you the details and steps to achieve the sound you're looking for with the equipment that you currently have.

This will give you the specific crossover settings, gain settings, eq settings, time alignment, etc...

I've recommended this to a few people and they thanked me because they were able to get exactly what they were looking for or close to it using exactly what they had.

The first thing you need to do is replace the factory radio/receiver for a high end unit. You can upgrade all your speakers and it will still sound like crap if you don't replace the factory radio. Upgrade the speakers after the radio/receiver.

The stock 8” sync isn’t a bad head unit. It has a pretty low noise floor. What you’re saying isn’t based in reality.

I will 100% look into this!! I am going all Focal speakers and Hertz amps in hopes of getting it to sound as close to my S580 as possible.
