I reinstalled my GrimmSpeed exhaust valve simulators, but the flaps are not fully open. I turned the car on, put it in track mode then shut it off. Both sides were partially open, but not fully. Should they be fully open? I am thinking yes, but wanted to make sure. I sprayed some penetrating oil on the flaps and on top. Any other suggestions? Next step is removing the GrimmSpeed simulators and cycling the exhaust open and close to see if they move correctly, but I really don't want to have to remove and install them again. Any suggestions?

The white stuff in the one picture is from the metal thing I used to see if the were stuck. They do move, but just are not fully open. This is the first day I drove the car more than down the driveway since October.

EDIT/Solution: Start the car, put it in track mode/select open exhaust, remove the 15A fuse (google for location), shut car off, remove connector from active exhaust, put GrimmSpeed simulator on to the connector, zip tied the connector with GrimmSpeed simulator away from the exhaust. Success! I think you can just remove the fuse as well, but then there may be something about exhaust mode not available in your cluster which would drive me nuts.

What you did (track mode/off) didn’t really accomplish anything. When the car is off, the valves cycle back to some neutral position (mine does) after a set amount of time. It’s my understanding the simulator will keep the valve in whatever position it’s in when you install them. Thus they need to be full open when you do the install. Yes you are going to have to re-do the install. You need the valves full open when you install them. Maybe others will jump in with a best technique.

then how do you get them fully open? Everything I can find says to put it in track mode or toggle the exhaust open and then shut the car off. From my understanding, the valves are either open or closed. Mine are a little limp lol.

You gotta pull the fuse for the valves after it's in track mode or it's just going to revert back.

When I installed those simulators, I left the car running in track mode to ensure they remained fully open. I noticed that once I turned the car off in any mode, they completely closed, and over a brief time, slightly opened like your pictures.

Alright, I try to pull the fuse when running in track mode. These fat hands are getting beat up putting that connector in and out a few times lol.

I think you need to look at the valves with the engine running, and look at them in each mode.
My valves look like that when the engine is not running. Bur once its running, they're either fully closed or open depending on mode.

Thanks everyone - removing the fuse with the flaps open when the car is running solved it!

Mine stay wide open when off. As soon ad you cycle the key they go to the normal mode position. I reprogrammed the settings in PCMtech so they are always wide open unless in quiet mode. As soon as I get it out of storage I'll down load the file and see what happens
