Here is the deal...I just changed out to Kooks headers and X pipe and man what a difference...she is loud...especially with the exhaust valve open...Closed its about as between how loud it is stock -between the sport and normal (open/closed) setting.

What I have found out, when driving in the normal (quiet) exhaust setting, when I apply more than say 1/2 throttle, the valve opens up...making it loud..when I don't want it loud...

Anyone know how these things are controlled...is there a setting in the ECU that can be changed to make it always closed in the normal setting?

I'm not sure if it was like this before the exhaust change, cause I never drove in the normal setting.....

I appreciate the help.

I don't believe any aftermarket tuners have figured out how to mess with overriding the valves, would be a neat feature though.

Is it supposed to open past half throttle in the normal setting?

Yes,they open automatically somewhere over half throttle regardless of setting.

Those valves open for a reason, don't think it's a good idea to keep them from openning....

They also open again in 6th gear even under light throttle once you are over 95-100mph. That was my experience in Sport mode. Don't ask me how I know. :ninja:

Dont think they ever close in sport mode, but I have noticed what you've experienced. I just think the exhaust isnt as loud at low rpm, i.e. 6th gear. Once you put a small load on it, it starts to wake up!!! I'm still amazed at how mellow it is when cruising on the highway in 6th.....

Those valves open for a reason,
probably from marketing's assumption that at over half throttle or 90 mph everybody wants the car to be noisy. Marketing gets things like this wrong from time to time because they can't see individual trees in the forest.

Why not? I doubt that this system is much different from Chevy's NPP system in the 5th gen Camaros, which was a $900 option with no advertised power gain (but might have gained 5 or 6 HP anyway). Point being that the LS3 was just fine whether it had a couple of open valves in the exhaust or not. Shouldn't be any different with the Voodoo (and what if they simply got stuck in the shut position?).

They definitely close in 6th gear in sport mode. This is why the exhaust doesn't drone.
