Maybe it's a Bullitt thing. When the engine is cold, the RPM's jump up to 1250(?) which I know is normal, and it's obvious the exhaust opens up a little more than the standard quiet setting. The exhaust valve starts to close as the RPM's go down. Once they're down to normal (~750, maybe) the car sounds quiet like it should. A "warm" star up is plenty quiet, like what you guys are describing.
If I get a chance I'll try to get a video next week. Need someone starting the car and someone making the video showing the exhaust valve opening so I'm not sure when I'd be able to do it. Of course, the engine needs to be cold, too. A video showing the exact RPM's wouldn't hurt.
