Alright, keep me honest here. Have read through tons of posts here and various other locations and think I have it someone down here. My goal is to tie in my JL VX1000/5 and swap out the door speakers. since I've already stripped the EQ/RollOff settings out with Forscan, it would seem the best method for me would be to somehow hijack the feeds between the factory amp output and the door speakers themselves, right? Based on that I plan to do the following (referencing info from the sticky post):

  • Take the outputs from rear LH/RH speakers at the rear to feed the JL's high level inputs
  • Take Front Door leads from the Factory AMP and disconnect (snip) them; then take the speaker side and run to the JL speaker out for their respective Fronts

If that part seems seems right, my remaining questions are:
  • Are the speaker gauges on the existing wiring going to be sufficient for the 100rms max drive I plan to push (drilling out the harness in the door didn't seem like it was going to be a walk in the park - got cramps just trying to peel it back...)
  • Is there a legit harness that will let me do without cutting - scouring the interwebs and forums found mentions of all sorts of part numbers, but can't seem to find one that seems to consistently match for my 2018 9speaker setup.
On a side note, I REALLY wanted to run new 3 way setup to run wires back to the passive crossover in the trunk on the custom amp rack, but couldn't quite see how that works out with the wires coming off the harness (assuming I used the same method as above). The diagrams in the sticky show that the Door "tweeter" and the A-Pillar Tweet share the same to channel cables? Did I read that right? By that measure it looks like I'll have to put the crossover in the door. Anything else on this process I might be missing anyone can key me in on. I appreciate and spoon-feeding your willing to share.

Thanks!

Look up the idatalink HRN-AR-FOx harnesses.
Or better check their website for compatible products. The relevant harness gives you all signal lines (fron and rear) and the loose wire ends for the stock speaker wires and a remote turn on (6V, so a relay is needed to push that to 12V).

For the midrange in door and tweeter in pillars, just rewire the tweeter in the a-pillars.
Run the speaker wires from your passive crossover to the central speaker wire distribution in the drivers kickpanel.

Thanks for that, that totally slipped by me - placed an order for FO3 variant and should have it Friday to take a stab at this. Here’s to hoping it all places ā€˜nice’.
