Wow a sad display of the public's ignorance. This isn't the first time octane issues have been debunked.

Forced induction or tunes are a different story. But even the Ecoboost isn't going to blow up with 87 or anything. Daily driving you wont notice the 11% loss.

Where I live, the only way you can buy 100% gasoline with no ethanol is to buy premium. Ethanol has less energy than gasoline - just a fact. You'll make better power and get better gas mileage without ethanol. I buy premium, not for the octane, but because it's the only way I can get straight gasoline.

Really wish ford wouldn't have taken the safe route and just listed the car at 93 like every other high compression motor these days. The reason they list all their cars at 87 is to appeal to more people.

How is that the safe route? If the car didn't run properly/safely on 87, it wouldn't be listed as an option.

Curious as to why you care that Ford says 87 is okay.

I mean safe route for getting more people to buy the car. 93 is a turn off for a lot of casual buyers. its rated at 87 and will run fine on that but the engine is designed for 91+ some of these people seem to think ford designed this motor to run with the timing retarded and that is incorrect.

After 4000 miles, i switched from 87 to 93 octane. After running 93 for the last 1500 miles, i have now improved my MPG by +2. Is this the only reason, not sure, but it sure seems like it as nothing else has changed....
