Those 1964 LE's come with unique Vin #'s
I have no doubt an informed consumer will be able to verify with the vin but that won't stop sellers from making buyers think the package is the special anniversary car and most buyers are ignorant of minutiae. Anyway if I were buying a LE brand new the appearance package would bug me a little.

Well, then the existence of this "50th anniversary package" greatly reduces my desire for the "50th anniversary limited edition". It's unfortunate that Ford isn't making the limited edition's appearance as limited as its production quantity. I feel like they need to add something more to set the limited edition apart from the package.

^^You are talking about the 50 Year Limited Edition. Johnny is asking about the 50th anniv appearance package. It shows up in the order banks too. It's no surprise, they offer one every 5 year anniversary. The only difference this year is they decided to come out with a separate limited edition to commemorate it.

All 1999 Mustangs have the 35 years badging on the front fenders, but there was a 35th Anniversary Limited Edition with two tone interior, unique wheels, scoops, hood stripe, etc. Available in just a few colors. Same happened in 2004 as they all had 40 years emblems, but the Limited Editions all had medium parchment stripes, interior, and wheels, plus a badge on the console, spoiler delete, etc. (all were black, white, or crimson - with crimson unique to the Ltd Ed).

No surprise that there is a 50th Ann. Ltd Ed car and a watered down version, as well.

Personally there is nothing in either of those packages I find even remotely appealing. I'll be happy to take a regular car. Just wish I could have a premium without leather, which once again doesn't seem to be an option.

I do agree that Ford should have kept the added design elements of the LE more exclusive (although I have to say the louvered windows are one of my favorite things about it). I'm surprised they didnt go with an exclusive color that would really stand out. Kona will be mistaken for DIB and WW for OW.

From a business standpoint I can see why they are doing it. They give it a unique VIN and have Bill Ford sign each one and can sell every one they make before the regular 50th anniversary packaged cars even start hitting the roads. It also costs very little for them to offer the appearance package so it's a win win for them.

I bet the LE buyers will get pissed once they start seeing 50th packages on the road and I'm sure after a few months we'll see mods for the louvered quarter window too.

Having seen the Kona Blue car in Vegas, I agree, I initially assumed it was DIB. That being said, it still looks stunning and the small touches on the 50th LE really do make a difference. When Topnotch indicated the DLO would have a chrome surround, I didn't like the sound of it. In the metal? Looks fantastic. As do the chrome accents on the tail lights. The interior also looks superb, with those two-tone seats and the pony and "50 Years" logo embossed on them. I'd love to see that pony on the seats filter down to a "Pony Package" at some point, again a nod to the past.

It would have been cool for the car to have been Guardsman Blue though, a more historical colour. Whilst I prefer darker blues, Galpin Auto Sports had the 1 off Shelby GT500 on display in Guardsman Blue, and it looked stunning.

In the grand tradition of Mustang customization, parts from special models make their way into the broader community. It's just part of the deal, I think.

True tho most of the special models have performance upgrades (not just a PP) to go along with those unique appearance items. I think thats why some people are let down about the LE. It's mostly just cosmetic and a lot of it we'll be able to replicate pretty easily with the aftermarket.

Yes, but am I understanding you correctly that ALL 1999 and ALL 2004 Mustangs regardless of trim had anniversary badging by default?. This scenario is a little different because by default no 2015 Mustangs have anniversary badging. The customer can then spend a little more for the 50th appearance package or a lot more for the actual 50th LE car which doesn't appear to be signficantly different from the appearance package, but I am sure there are some differences like the chrome bezels and the louvered windows, etc..... So in conclusion the majority of 2015s will look like regular 2015s. A small but sizeable subset will have 50th grille, 50th wheels, some form of upgraded interior and 50th FGC as part of an optional to anyone appearance package. An even smaller subset will be the actual LE car with the same things in the appearance package plus louvered windows, chrome trim, and plate on dashboard. Seems like to joe AVG on the street if they noticed the 50th design cues they'll think the appearance package cars are the same thing as the LE cars. If I were a potential LE buyer I'd hate that. Too close in resemblance. Seems differenent than what you're saying about the past. Am I missing something in your analogy?

Don't all of the 2015 mustangs have the dash plaque saying 50th anniv or something like that? I think that is what was being said. The other anniv years all said something on the side like a small item similar to the positioning of the anniversary stuff on the passenger dash. Right?

EDIT: it says
"Mustang
Since 1964"

And has the pony...kinda like saying 50 years? Just not as blatant and previous editions with the badging on every car...

OMG! I Totally get the "Fusion" thing now after seeing this picture...

NO... Not as in the 2015 Mustang looks like a Fusion, I see the S-550 as being a Fusion of the SN-95 seen behind it and a S-197.
