OK, hold on to your hats....

In late 2005, GM brought us a 505HP, 470 lb-ft, 3200lb Z06 which debuted as a 2006 model.

Now, a DECADE F'G later, Ford brings us a 500-ish HP; 400-ish TQ 3600LB (est) Mustang and everyone is excited. Really?

OK, you say the LS7 is 7.0L and the FPC Ford is only 5.2L. Yep, who cares? I would think that the LS7 is physically smaller and lighter than the 5.2????

So, convince me. Is Ford really moving the needle forward with a bigger, heavier motor in a porky, heavier car - a DECADE after GM? Is this progress?

I'll give in on one point (so far). I think the FPC will sound better..... that's what 10-years has brought us.

Can we please stop calling the 5.2L V8 a 5.2 FPC. It is one part of an entire engine. This is becoming the most obnoxiously spammed set of letters since the early COTUS era. Is there not a name for this thing? Voodoo? Anything?

Have you heard about the 5.0 VVT? It's a pretty cool engine. Or the 6.2 supercharger.

OHV engines are in general smaller than OHC engines. They are less efficient than OHC engines though.

I would like to point out that the 2005 Z06 had a base price of $65,800, which is about 80.1K today. A lot of people think base price will be between 55k-65k for the GT350. It's not that Ford can't keep up, it's a matter of cost.

The camaro has been similarly priced and similarly spec'd out while it's been in production which is the mustang's competition, not the corvette. The mustang has also been lighter with the bigger motor.

Also, have we forgotten the 13/14 GT500 with 662 hp?

Isn't the 'vette much smaller than a S197/S550 mustang too? That helps with weight.

Would you buy a mustang with the price tags of a Z06?

Also, todays crash standards are nowhere near what they were in 2005. Standard equipment has grown immensely as well. It all adds up to more weight. Even the corvette weighs significantly more today than it did then.

1. Tell me how much a 2015 Z06 weighs. Hint: it's a lot more than the 2006 you are choosing to use for comparison to a 2016 vehicle. You can't just ignore a decade's worth of changes to crash safety standards, etc.

2. How can you dismiss the displacement of the engine in this comparison? Ford has created a motor that not even exotics like Ferrari have pulled off (largest displacement production FPC V8 ever). It's easy to throw displacement at a problem like Chevy traditionally has. Coaxing more HP out of less displacement is a much more impressive feat.

3. Mark my words, this 5.2L motor will make WELL above 500HP... not "500-ish"

I'm fine with FPC Voodoo, being this is the first FPC engine ever put in a production Mustang, I kind of think people should know.
As far as one component, it is the main component in the overall consideration of every other component in the design process of the engine.
It starts with the firing order and the higher rpm, which now the engineers have to combat vibrations, valve float, and every other stress that comes with an 8200+rpm motor. This is the heart of the motor, yeah FPC kind of boring, but really exciting time for a production mustang to have such an engine.
