I can't believe "WHAT" I'M reading here ... 5.0 BAD PROBLEMS ? 2018 10 sp auto .19" wheels . Pure as the day it was born .....with 25K hard miles on the clock .... 27 MPG on Cruise at 78 mph "PLUS" HIGH 11's ET in QUARTER MIle .............Where the hell you gonna find something that performs like that ? PLUS at the time before car prices went insane , drive out for 35K less taxes { I'm TAX exempt fortunately }
I'd give anything to "GO BACK TO MY HIGHSCHOOL DAYS " with one of these. 426 Hemi's were lucky to see mid 12's / 7 liters vs 5 . Don't ya love technology ?

BADASS MALIBU's 396/365 HP a bit slower ..........I could only afford a 66 MUSTANG GT F/Back 289/271 HP and was lucky to see a High 13 's !/4 mile .
What a difference 50 short years make HUH ?

OK time for my prunes and warm milk ,off to bed .......junqdawg .

PS.. PLZ take this in the humor it was meant to portray . Apples to Oranges and all that stuff .... HEMI'S WERE THE KING .NO DOUBT .... I guess you could say with the HELLCAT ..THEY STILL ARE !!!!!
If this thread can tolerate a slight veer off, I’d like to say that stock, as-delivered Hemis were anything but the king where I grew up. Any decent running top horsepower GTO, Corvette, you name it could easily pull a stock Hemi. Heck, even a 440 was far more feared than a stock Hemi. Now a properly tuned and massaged Hemi was a different story, but out of the box not so much. It was almost like they sent you a kit motor with the car and it was up to you to get the components all going in the same direction at the same time. I guess there aren’t that many of us from those days still around to remember the truth, so most folks just buy into the hyperbole. But the reality was that it took headers, distributor and carb tweaks (at a minimum) to get one to run halfway right. Conversely, you could take a Tri-Power Goat pulling 3.90s or better through a close-ratio 4 speed right off the showroom floor and wreak havoc.

Funny how legends often outlive reality.

I regretfully must agree to disagree with "YOUR MEMORY" I see you are from DEEP SOUTH NOW .. Don't know where you grew up . I am 6th Gen TEXAN . for what That's worth . My friend got a new 67 Satellite 426 Hemi DUAL QUAD /4sp 4:10 rea. Granted he damn near burnt all the tread off the stock rear tires on the way home from dealership . . But with a set of Top Grade Slicks , A slight Carb Tune and a dose of AV-gas . He would eat "GOAT" for dinner . I'm pretty well versed in Pontiac Engines , My father-in-law ran NASCAR from 61 to 92. He was all Pontiac till the late 70's he went with Chev . I was with him when he bought 2 race ready motors from A.J. Foyt himself {they were longtime friends} A.J had very FEW ! {FRIENDS THAT IS } ....

The GTO was a cool ride ,I agree . But no match for a 426 dual Quad Hemi . TrI -PoWER GTO's were a GIMMICK . IT was hard enough to get ONE CARB tuned out race ready , let alone get "{ THREE } 2v 's in sync . If 3 2V/s were so great , NasCAR Pontiacs would have certainly used them ,Don't ya think ? ... We can still be nice to each other and debate the cars from the 'Ol Days . Afterall that's "WHY" they made them all different . NOT LIKE THE ELECTRIC CRAP THAT"S IN OUR VERY NEAR FUTURE !!! WHO has "THE FASTEST BATTERY" and how do we make ours quicker than the other guy . ?? Respect your opinion Sir ..Junqdawg

I’m talking bone stock vs. bone stock. No slicks, no carb tweaking.

NASCAR rules wouldn’t allow 3x2s in ā€˜65-ā€˜66. I had several and my buds had more and we had zero problems syncing or anything else.

Everybody’s memories and experiences are of course different. Growing up in NE Atlanta, our bunch was pretty much all GM guys and we were primarily street predators, not track. We had respect for the 440s, but for us anyway stock Hemis were easy prey. There weren’t many of them in the first place, but very few guys seemed to be able to get them running right on the street. Now track-prepped cars were a whole different proposition but not what I’m talking about here.

Of course like I say we all had different experiences!
