You may be right. The next Corvette C7 Z06 will probably be around 75K and we all know how fast it's going to be. The GT350 (next Boss) should only be 50K max. GT500 may be another 10K more.Assuming the GT350 is NA not FI and is intended as a track car, I really hope they price it more in line with the Boss Laguna Seca than the Z/28.
I'm sorry, but $75k is absolutely f*(king ridiculous for a pony car, any pony car, and I'm saying this as someone who owned 3 Camaros before my Mustang.
It wont.Well if the f-150 has aluminum body panels. I wonder if the Mustang will have Aluminum body panels..
In my opinion you have to do an apples to apples comparison with weight. If the turbo 4 is the only one to weigh less than the outgoing model it's disingenuous to claim it lost weight over the previous gen.It wont.
The GT will come in at or slightly above the current GT's weight. That means a 50-100lbs lighter I4 will still give the S550 the distinction of being lighter than the current gen cars. The ILIRS added around 150lbs and Ford looked at every part to get that number down. You can look at it this way, the car is lighter in many respects but the reality of safety equipment and IRS counteracted that. Without it, the GT would be 200lbs lighter. With all that considered and a nearly identical size it is still an accomplishment having any trim come in under the current weight.
Bottom line, anyone that is still quoting 200-400lbs weight loss has their head in the clouds.
Nooooooooo!!!! I wish they could have dropped weight. The weight they are losing is just being put back on like the Stingray. The S197 was actually a light platform, the GT500 reinforcement changed that in 2007, and continued with the safety equipment. It wont.

Better hold off on that 3380...Gt track pack? Curious. .
This is what I was thinking. The ILIRS doesn't seem, from a structural point of view, that it would have the ability to add more weight than a similarly sized CBIRS. We also know that the weight gain on the CBIRS was a relatively small compared to a traditional multi-link.Hey Mitchell, are you positive the ILIRS added that much? The BMW's system (almost identical) is lightweight. ILIRS has no upper housing unit for the spring/shock to mount. I can't see a standard Short-Long Arm IRS and the ILIRS being just as heavy.
I highly doubt 150lbs could be picked up there bud. That could be misinformation...
I am still hearing Ford has aggressive weight saving goals and they are going to meet them. Are they just talking about the shell?
Yes 150 or close to it. If it adds 150 and adds even more with safety equipment and they get it to almost break even isn't that aggressive weight savings for a car that is the same dimensions? BMW system is not identical. Different strengthening requirements for the weight delta of each car and also the halo models, among other things.Hey Mitchell, are you positive the ILIRS added that much? The only logical explanation I can come up with is they are trying to keep the information from Chevy and Dodge. This has been some of the tightest lip info for the car we've waited for. Some strange marketing my friend.
Saying over and over it'll outperform the Boss 302 does way more to kill 2014 sales than saying it's lighter.
