3D printed splash guards?

I think everyone here is tired of waiting for Ford to make OEM splash guards and the currents one's available are pretty expensive for the materials and quality.

How hard would it be for someone to come up with a 3D printed splash guard that is durable and good looking? anyone here have the skills and means to do it? is it even possible to make it high quality and more affordable than whats available?

I'm making my own with sheets of thicker Kydex. Easy to work with and very durable.

That's a solid idea. You should post pics when you finish. I was hoping 3D printing could offer some nice customization in terms of texture or color.

That's why I chose Kydex. Rainbow of colors, multiple thicknesses, and many textures aside from those applied by the fabricator. Should be next week sometime, ordered 1/8" 12x12 sheet of T from Amazon just today.

3D printing likely is not going to be the best solution. It would be more expensive and the material properties would not allow for durable exterior part. I think the best way to make these splash guards would be to use Kydex.

I know someone close that makes custom Drone parts via 3D Printing. I'll ask him how involved it would be. He'll most likely do it for just materials cost. Or 12 people paypal me $100 and I'll go get the machine and make them myself :cheers:

A sheet of the proper Kydex is like $8 on Amazon. A few minutes with some cardboard to make the shape and a few more with a razor knife and you are set.

I just want the simple flat guards for the track. Kydex is moldable, so if you really wanted something custom it wouldn't be hard to get a full setup to press mold Kydex, it's super cheap.

I'm just going to drill the liner and fit mine with 3M tape at the Roush extensions and either trim screws or more likely standard trim push pins.

I will hopefully have it done next week, Kydex still in the mail.

Use a heat gun and you can put a gentle bend in Kydex but even better is Sintra. Sintra is lighter and just as cheap as Kydex. Because Sintra is a foam form of PVC the edges are porous so you need to seal them with some clear paint, I apply it with a brush you can't see it so it is easy to do.

Eh, no need for paint, a few seconds on a buffing wheel and Kydex has a perfect edge burnish.

Lol, right after we talked I saw the thread. Right after than I got the idea. I haven't had a chance to start but it looks like it's going to take a bit of work, nothing too crazy, to make them a simple install. I haven't even made a pattern yet. When I do I'll let you have it;)

I just got mine in today. They're such flimsy and cheap looking pieces of shit. I don't know yet if I'll return them or keep them because there are no other options

This is a fantastic idea! I almost bought Rally Armor universal flaps to trim, but I think most people would really rather have molded factory style guards (me included).

Never heard of Kydex, awesome idea [MENTION=17656]higdominator[/MENTION].

Post up some pics when you get a chance. I'll probably do this as well if I can get crafty enough to make some look factory.

I'm in the same boat almost got universal rally armor mud flaps ( ahh the Subaru days when looking like a 18 wheeler was okay ) now I'd much rather something similar to the gt350 front and back

Someone or some company has got to come up with a decent set of mud guards for Coyote owners. I mean c'mon Ford the car has been out for two model years now.
They should offer the same mud flaps as the GT 350 but adapted for the Coyote.
Feels good to vent !
