I would defintely say the 6.4 Hemi is the king right now in stock form. Put that motor in a mustang and its a low 12 high 11 car.
6.4L = 75hp per liter
5.0L = 87hp per liter

6.4L owns the TQ battle for sure.

I wonder if the 5.0 still has some legroom

Very true.

That's why I'm not all that impressed with the Hemi. With quite a bit more displacement, it should be making a bunch more HP. Same with the 5.7 Hemi...375 HP, that's weak, it should be at least what the 5.0 is putting out. Dodge needs to up their game if the want to keep up with the Mustang & Camaro. I know the Challenger is carring more weight, I would think that would be more incentive for them to throw down more HP to compensate.

All you would need to do is drop in a mild cam and you could easily get 550+ hp....pushrod motors just need dat lumpity lump cam to wake them up. Stock pushrod motors are too tame.

You bet, just don't know why Dodge doesn't step up & it. I guess they don't mind getting stomped from light to light.

No need, they are happy with sales it seems. But I have seen some 392s with bigger cams and full boltons running 10's all motor same as some 5.0s with full boltons + weight reduction. For a 4000+ pound boat running 10's that's impressive.

Well, I do know this: I had a buddy of mines 392 Challenger at a light and a 13 Mustang pulled up next to us. I looked at him & he said go for it. The light turned green & I did. That Challenger had nothing for that Mustang. I was staying with him but couldn't gain any ground on him. Needless to say, I was kinda disappointed with the Challengers abilities.

Have fun changing cams and heads on your 392 and or LS or LT engines, I love how Ford heads flow great from the factory, which is also why these engines love boost.

Stock 392 scatpack will run 12.3.-12.5, thats impressive imo. for a 4200# car But my GT ran those numbers when I had just a tune and cat deletes. Now that Im boosted im running 10's.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Challengers but trim level to trim level...you can't compare them. How much does a Mustang GT cost? How much does a 392 Challenger Scat Pack cost? There's quite a disparity between the two in terms of cost to performance. It all boils down to one thing for me: "bang for the buck".

Scat Pack R/T with an auto is about 39,000.

For 39,000 you get..

485/475
8 speed auto
HD Suspension
4 corner Brembos
Touch Screen Radio w/ Performance Pages
Driving Modes
Active Exhaust
Stock shorty headers w/ separate catted mid-pipes
Rims that can accommodate 265/275 wide tires, stock.

So...there's quite a bit you get there that isn't available with an auto GT unless you step up to a Premium, even then there are some things that are not available (active exhaust and 4 corner brembos, for example)

Yes but the scatpack adds up quick it's like 3 or 4 grand more with the equivalent luxury options I can add some brembos and a good sounding exhaust for way cheaper than that

But can you get the power without all those options at a cheaper price? Say around $30-32K? When I looked at Challenger I remember them being at least $4k-$5k more than Mustang. The local dealer seemed to be even more proud of their stuff, wanting $10k to $12k over Mustang.

The cheapest realistically you can get a Scat Pack for is about 37,500. That's roughly 1% under invoice with Affiliate Pricing (roughly similar to X-plan).

No, Dodge does not offer the 392 in a cheaper package. Frankly I'm glad they have the brains do not just throw a 485hp engine into a car with suspension and brakes designed for a 390ish HP engine (the 5.7)

Invoice on a Scat Pack is 35726. Not 37. And affiliate is about 1% lower than that.
