Hello all. I was hoping someone could give me a very basic explanation of the difference of 3.15 differential and 3.55. I didn't know about this option when I placed my vehicle order. And now I'm curious. Nothing technical, just the "quick" answer. If there is one. Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any idea is there's an MPG lose with the 3.55 rear?

Its the ratio of the rear end, how many times the driveshaft rotates to how many times the wheel rotates. Higher number ("shorter") means more mechanical leverage and higher RPM for a given vehicle speed. Since most people drive by speed not engine RPM, it lowers your MPG slightly while giving you a bit more acceleration.

As to how much of an MPG drop, the difference is about 7%, so .5-2mpg depending on how you drive.
