According to a tire/rim chart I use, supposedly a 255 tire is the safe minimum width for use on a 10" rim.

I just mounted some 255's on my new 10" front rims and I don't like the way it looks.

Is it considered safe on a performance car?

I think that's pretty much the maximum width wheel you can use with most tire brands at that size. It's certainly not going to be pretty and stretched. However, it may actually be good for performance. Normally you'd want the published tread width to be a bit less than the wheel width, but not more than an inch of difference usually. I run a Yokohama 275/40-19 on a 10" wheel, but my actual tread width is actually closer to 9". A Michellin PS4S with a 255/40-19 actually has a tread width that's 9.3" so it's also brand/model specific. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine, but may not be pretty.

Depends on the specific tire. You need to find what the specific tire manufacturer says is safe for 10' rim for the tire you have. Different tires are wider or more narrow at for instance the same 245 size.

It'll be fine, just a little stretched.

I ran the OEM PP tires on my first set of aftermarket wheels until they were shot, 255 front on a 10" wheel. No worries.

I decide to stop being ignorant and checked the recommendation on Firestones website. Says the 255/40/19 is good with an 8.5" to a 10.0" rim.

I feel better now.

Strokerswild,

You are right and thanks for the input. Appreciate it.

Hmmm... 25.4mm x 10 = 254mm. Seems like you’d be within the parameters but at the north end of the parameters. Might wanna avoid curbs though.

**edited to fix my math. Covid blamed.**
